Have you guys been tracking on the new 2022 Tundra? Looks like it’ll be a twin turbo V6, coil spring rear suspension, and a composite 6.5ft bed.

What do you think? I’d prefer a V8 but a boosted V6 with Toyota reliability could be good too.

I’m about a year out from buying a truck to tow the 40 and I’d also like the capability to tow a tractor/skid steer/mini ex. Waiting to see the specs on the new Tundra or I might just go with an F250/350.

While the 5.7 has been very reliable for me, the 6.5 mpg towing is atrocious ! Interested to see how the twin turbo holds up. The proposed changes seem similar to fords f150 from a few years ago.
I’ll be ready for a new tundra in about 40k miles after putting 400k miles on two previous tundras.

I thought the turbo Ford gassers still got crappy gas mileage when towing. Just got good mpg for regular driving.

If they have an option that'll seat 6 I'll be taking a look. I have a hard time thinking they're going to release a new Tundra without a diesel optional. The new GM half tons are hitting close to 30 mpg on the 3.0 I-6 Duramax at only a $995 premium over the gasser. I haven't seen any real world towing figured but it's got to be better than 6 mpg.

Anyone read an official intro date from Toyota about the new Tundra?

It was originally supposed to be February but it keeps getting pushed back possibly due to supply chain issues. Now they’re saying it’s going to be released in the fall.

My Tundra had a lifetime mpg of about 11.5. Half of the 40K miles I put on her over ten years was towing my track car. I typically got 8.5mpg towing and right around 13 otherwise.
Pretty bad, but I drove the truck sparingly. It was a good vehicle overall . Sold it when I got rid of the trailer and no longer needed such a large pickup.

Don't foresee a need for anything larger than my1st gen Taco going forward. Just big enough to do what I need to.

Speaking of the GM 3.0 Duramax, I trust that Toyota isn’t dumb enough to build an engine with a rubber belt driven oil pump that requires transmission removal to replace LOL.

I don't know.....it's like they see a dumb idea and then yell 'hold my beer'

Its a stupidity convention at the automakers these days. All of them.

Yeah I've seen that and it is pretty ridiculous. However, the stated maintenance interval is 125k miles and apparently they've never actually broken a belt on any of their engines in high mileage testing.
