I've a 100% original 3 door SWB with the 1GR-FE engine and was looking to make some minor / easily reversible enhancements to better daily usability:

1. Upgrading the front 2 dash mounted Pioneer 4", 6 ohm factory fit speakers -- what are the most highly recommended options (easily available - its been years since I bought aftermarket ICE)? Not keen on changing / cutting door panels and all that.
2. How can once increase the rear track width with the least impact on wear and tear / reliability and without changing wheels? I have the 16" alloys.
3. Maybe some sort of tachometer :)

1. I got mine off crutchfield.com I had to redo the connectors, but much better now as mine were blown out.
2. Wheel spacers in the rear is probably the only way. Otherwise different offsets for your rear wheels from your fronts.
3. This can be done with a cluster swap. @Zee got me the parts for my 1FZ-F Troopy.

Hello,

There are 4 in. speakers with built-in tweeters for better sound. Pioneer and Sony have them, and they are affordable.

Another option is installing speakers in the rear doors. The harness has connectors for them, and you can order the panels and mounts. An amplifier, usually on the right side, completes the setup.

As mentioned above, spacers are the only choice.

Regarding the instrument panel, it is possible to swap it for one with a tachometer. Make sure the sender connection is there. There are threads on cluster change here. The search function is your friend.

Hello, good evening I have a couple of clusters available here in US if you want to give it a try

Have the Pioneers ordered. After reading up on spacers etc I think i will give them a miss.

Thanks, I might be interested. PM me?

2010 and later clusters are circuit board and all gauges cannot be moved about. You cannot buy a tach and install. See link above to tract down a three plug GR solution.

Rather than tinkering with the original gauges I thought I’ll install a small/easily removable Bosch tach instead (the Bosch Sport II FST 7906)

I assume this is possible - is it advisable to go thru the wiring route into fuse box / somewhere in the ignition system; or is there a neater solution available via OBD port or similar? (Am a newbie at this)
