Define "better?"

Seriously, newer is newer, but probably not like the '15 to '16 updates.

I’ve thought the same. In that case, 19 would be better.

Jesus. You could have. 2019 with an August 2019 build date and a 2020 with a September 2019 build date……..

Aren't those two model years identical? In which case it would be down the condition of the individual vehicles.

I believe at a point in time there were supply shortages and maybe, quality control issues.

See below per a search on this forum. Not sure how you can figure out the latest front differential and whether that is significant (I would say no, unless you plan to put big heavy tires on it and do a lot of rock crawling in which case a 2008 is probably best in any case...).

I would say drive each of them and check all details and then decide which one is best.

For LC:

2020+: new front differential design…maybe better/stronger?

2018+: KDSS bolt change, automatically power-folding outside mirrors, late-2018s have new radiator design, late-2018s have capacitive touch screen on center display, powered lift gate, non-mandatory rear entertainment, newer transmission software (flashable on 2016-2017), and new key design.

2016+ LC also gains bigger front brakes, 8-speed auto, semi-aniline leather of the LX, and has better buttons arrangement than prior years.

Agree

My 2008 200 series is complete junk. I mean 290k miles, all stock. I keep waiting for head gaskets to fail and transmissions to grenade and oil leaks, but nothing keeps happening.

I hope it breaks down soon.

Yeah, Toyota products made in japan tend to not have those issues. Lol

That is complete speculation.

to keep my post tech- @OP I would say you have to link us to the two trucks you are looking at. Literally identical vehicles from a factory spec standpoint.

That is complete speculation.
My experience during COVID is that we doubled down on doing the basics safely and stopped working management initiatives. Was a good time to get the real work done. I would think in Japan 3rd party suppliers and Toyota would have doubled down as well to make sure quality builds would keep them in business during and post COVID.
