I recently swapped my OEM grill to a blacked out one and ran into a pretty big issue with the camera mount. I didn’t realize until after I pulled off the OEM grill that it didn’t have a mount for the camera. Contacted the seller in China and after another 2 weeks, they sent me a mount that fits nicely in the grill but not with my OEM camera. To make matters more frustrating, the replacement grill has a support pillar in place of where the OEM grill has a location to mount the camera. The link below with all my photos should be easier to comprehend!

I have a couple thoughts about how to make this work but would love to hear if anyone has a solution or input on my approach.

Picture thread:

A. I purchased a $20 replacement camera which will fit the new grill without modifications. I would need to clip the OEM connector in the hopes that the wires would be able to splice into the wires from the new camera. Before snipping the cable, I can peel back some of the wire covers to see what color wires I’m working with..Otherwise I would need to route the wires from the new camera all the way to the head unit…
B. Work with a 3D print designer to take the new measurements of the mount and have them widen the shroud to fit the OEM camera. Although, in order to use the OEM camera at all, I would need to dremel out the center support pillar in the new grill.
C. I have an extra camera shroud/mount that fit the new grill so I can toy around with cutting/melting/modifying it to work with the OEM camera and mount, although I would still need to cut the center support pillar out of the new grill to work with the OEM camera.

Thanks in advance y’all!

I’d go with C. I’m always very reluctant to cut/splice factory wiring. In fact I don’t think I’ve done that since I rewired a ‘46 Jeep decades ago. Is there an aiming issue with the camera? If so, your mount system may have to adjust for the new grill?

The OEM camera doesn't fit cleanly in the new mount so I'm either going to experiment with one of the supplied mounts for the new grill and cut out the center support pillar or wait until the new camera arrives and see if the wires are compatible. stay tuned!

I bought your old grille! Watching the thread because I want to see how you solve it. Good luck.

After not making any progress on this - I took a dremel to the non OEM click in camera mount and removed enough material until the OEM camera almost fit through. Used a heat gun on a low setting and press fit the camera in there. It’s not perfect but for the last 2 weeks I haven’t had any issues!
