Hi guys

I understand from 2018+ there were differences and two being a new power lift gate and a new key design. Was there much else ?

But if you got a 2016, could you just order a new style key and add the power lift gate?

Lastly, is the removal of the 3rd row difficult? Any idea how long it would take?

I believe the 18 had the option of skipping the silly 2nd row video screen monstrosities... Many here paid someone to make a delete insert to get rid of them... YMMV.

Third row seat removal takes about 10 minutes, or 15 minutes if no coffee. ;)

KDSS bolt change, automatically power folding outside mirrors, late 2018 have new radiator design, powered lift gate, non-mandatory rear entertainment, newer transmission software (flashable on 2016-2017), and new key design.

I can’t imagine it would be easy or even possible to add the power lift gate. And it would cost so much as to likely make the ‘16 more expensive than the ‘18.

Adding the power lift gate would be likely be a very expensive modification that includes wiring, ECU receiver for button press, etc. (@Sandroad beat me to the cost issue - I type too slow).

I sold a heritage edition and noticed that there is no cool box...

I have a 3 year old daughter so I benefit from the cool box and Disney DVDs on long trips. Haha.

Agreed that retrofitting a power liftgate would be too intensive to be practical. The LXs were fitted with power gates at the start of the 200-series.

In regards to 2016 to 2018 differences, I'm not sure exactly. The later model year LCs in particular, got more and more flowed down from the LX.

EDIT: Deleted list

I don't have years when these features may have flowed down, but perhaps worthwhile to look over to see what may be important to you:

LX features:
1) Substantially more sound deadening
2) Powered rear hatch for open/close
3) Soft open rear lower tailgate, with power latching
4) Surround camera system
5) Ventilated/Heated front row
6) Mark Levinson Reference (only other model to get the Reference system is the LS) w/surround
7) Power side view mirrors with auto-fold (I believe later LC's go this)
8) AHC - AVS, lift on demand, auto and multi-step damping, anti-dive/roll/squat, leveling, etc., etc.
9) AHC underbody armor
10) Shorter roof rack (LC has a longer roof rack with 3 supports per side)
11) Steering headlights (AFS)
12) Projector headlights ('16+ LCs got this)
13) Headlight washers
14) Storage in rear seat armrest
15) Power slide rear seats
16) Second row storage on front seatbacks is a panel vs net
17) 14-way adjustable driver seat vs 10-way LC (passenger 12-way vs 8-way)
18) Power stowage for 3rd row seat
19) All windows down by holding remote door open button for 3+ seconds (not sure Toyota's have this?)
20) Substantial Lexus key fob (LC uses same one as corolla)
21) Fade-To-Off interior lighting (I believe LC got this in 2014?)
22) Puddle and side step lights
23) Door sil lighting
24) Interior ambient lighting
25) Additional trunk side light and open tailgate lighting
26) +2hp / +2tq (requires 91 octane, LC is 87 octane)
27) More luxurious interior appointments
28) Ventilated outboard rear seats
29) Four-zone climate concierge
30) LED Headlamp with AHS Sequential Turn
31) LED Cornering Lamp
32) 12.3-inch high-res split-screen display (LC 9")
33) Head-up display
34) All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (LC DRCC for 25mph and up)
35) Steering wheel paddle shifter
36) Door puddle projector lamps
37) Rear door retractable sun shades
38) 2020 gets special trims: "LX570 Sport" to "LC Heritage"
39) Dual screen rear entertainment
40) Rain sensor wipers

Didn't the initial poster ask about LC? How did LX get in the mix? Maybe i misread the title of thread....

FYI...your list is way outdated.

Because that may be a useful reference to see what a superset of features were, that may have flowed down into the 2018s.

But your list is pretty much outdated (and thus irrelevant) in regards to 2016 and 2018 changes in a LAND CRUISER.

No where do I see a definitive list between 2016 and 2018. Instead of being critical as you typically are, how about you contribute and build that list? You now have both top down and bottoms up lists that may be able to formulate what that is.

Your list is trash...and of no use to me...not gonna waste time to fix that...would take way too long.

The answer to OP's question was answered by me in Post #3...just in case you missed it. ;)

This is quite the list and not entirely accurate. Not worth going into detail in this thread as to where there are discrepancies.

What is not noted is the way the trucks drive. The LX feels very disconnected from the road. So much so it swayed me from purchasing a new one. I ended up with a 2020 LC. I have a 14 LX so can share my thoughts on both platforms.

I happily stand corrected if there's nothing flowed down in 2018 and on. Lots did in earlier years.

hey 04 UZ. you might be the right guy to ask this question to. does the 20 have headlights that follow your turns and self level? I have a 2010 LX570 and i want to fit a 2020 LC nose on it. any thoughts? thanks Joe

The 20 Cruiser has self leveling lights. It does not have AFS. The LX lost AFS after 2016 as well, FYI.

Trust me, LC (2016+) headlights are phenomenal. BRIGHT, good spread (excellent when you turn on LED fogs), and far reaching. I almost feel bad for cars in front of me at night. :D

The differences have already been covered. The wiring isn't there in the 2016-18 LC to easily add the power lift gate that the 2018+ has. Just traded in our 2019 LX for a new LC. I can tell you that the LX cabin is quieter (thanks double pane glass and more sound dampening material), the leather is slightly better, the steering is more muted or disconnected as @04UZJ100 noted, and the headlights are comparable between it and the LC. If looking at a 2016+ LC I would seek out a late model 2018 or newer in order to get the redesigned radiator if budget allows.
