Hi Everyone I'm Sarah. I'm looking forward to this adventure. I will be bringing my father Ken(87yrs) with me. My turn to share the road with him. I will be driving my 80. 35" tires, 6" lift, 529 gears(love my gears), lots of body armor. I've been doing Cruise Moab since 2001. With my own rig since 2008.View attachment 1241049

Hi Sarah,
Great to have you and your dad along!
Don

Is a CB mandatory, or is a having just a HAM acceptable? I took my CB out last year, they suck!

Hi Sarah, Ken and Richard,
Look forward to seeing you all on the trail. Quite a rig you have Sarah and Ken must have some amazing skills to get gear and family into a rig that small for an offroad expedition. I sometimes think my 100 is a little small for two, but most of that has to be inflation of what we feel is necessary these days. ;)
Richard, I have always liked diesels and just bummed I can't get my 100 with a diesel.

Yes the willy's was small but we loved it. Every spring was a 4 day trip to "Canyonlands" southern Utah. We towed it from SLC with a Travel All then loaded it with 6 sleeping bags, cooler, coleman lantern and stove. Yes 6 sleeping bags Ma Pa and 4 girls. No tent a plastic tarp under us and a canvas tarp on top. If it rained flip the tarp over our heads. Great times.

I'm going to be playing with a "new" cooking method on this trip. Heat retention cooking. It works great in the house. I was thinking of a 15 beans soup for the pot luck or maybe carna adovada(great in burritos next am). 4qt pot( 14-1 cup servings)so there is a lot. Thursday will be the 8qt pot with chili for the vendor night. I will fill it for Wednesday night too if there are guinea pigs out there willing to help empty the pot.

You are making me hungry. You will have to compare notes with @ridgelinescouter (Don) he does a curry chicken couscous, boil water with JetBoil then all into a ziplock bag in a pouch made of that aluminized bubble wrap.

Went to fix my coleman last night. Went to 5 stores in ABQ no generators for colemans. So I went online have 2 coming next week. "Thankfully"(some might think it a hording problem)I have spare stoves. Tested cooking the Chili this morning on my tailgate. 1 hour 10 minutes dinner is packed up and in the back of the car waiting for tonight. I think I like this way of cooking.

Fail!!! opened it up 5pm temperature 170 degrees good. But the beans are still hard. You wouldn't starve but not good eating. So pressure cook for 30 minutes and see if that helps.

Hi Sarah,

You must not be using canned beans. ;-) You could also substitute pasta for the beans, and that would cook faster, but absorb a lot of fluid.

In any event, I remember that spread of food you had a Cruiserfest. We definitely won't go hungry!

Another great garage day, getting ready for CM16. Changed the engine oil and all three diffs. Lubed the drive line. Changed the belts and air filter. And, I checked my knuckle studs. DS was fine. PS was a little loose. All snug now. I checked the four drive flanges, too. Good to go.

Cliff (@Skidoo ) and I are doing a little shake-down ride tomorrow at the local OHV park. Should be fun.

@stickers...... I'm voting for the adovada, but I hear that anything you cook will be great. I will most likely be doing my nearly-famous pork green chile. I'll be smoking a few pork shoulders right before I leave, so I may have pulled pork instead. It's always nice to trade beer from your local area as well. I'll bring something brewed here on the Front Range.

Tuesday night potluck is always fun.... don't forget to grab a bundle of firewood as well.

Oooh, I will try and bring some Oregon Beers, I'm not a fan of the IPA's myself but I hear we have some great ones, let me know if anyone has requests and I'll try and bring some along!

Not sure what to contribute to dinner, probably cookies! Ill have to think about this, will be brewing coffee each morning.

2 more pots of beans today. Both successful. What I learned. "Old" beans will cook in a pressure cooker for an hour and get soft. New beans soaked overnight will cook fine in the Heat retention cooker aka insulated box. Get new beans for trip.

I will have to remember about "New" Vs "Old" beans, nice to have you pioneering for us. Sounds perfect for expedition camping, not a lot of time slaving over the stove - with the "New" beans of course. :)
You-all up for a repeat of my chuck-wagon Cruiser Chocolate Cherry Pie - it is a tad rich so a little bit does ya.

Well I decided if I was going to have to add a CB I may as well do it right.

I think I am going to put a hinge on the ham as it blocks the top bit of the mirror.
