2015 Desert Rendezvous

any tips for a guy coming from way up north, eh?
like from Ventura eh?

I believe i'm heading for this spot:

take a dirt rd from the 78?
i'm a noob...never been out there and will be coming in late friday night. should I look for a wagon train of trucks on the one passable road, or is it a like a land grab race with trucks coming from every direction?

Take the 78 to Split Mtn Road (across from the airstrip). Head south for a few miles until the pavement ends then head east on the dirt road and follow the train tracks right to camp. Take a look at Google satellite imagery and you can see the road.

great, yeah I saw that, was hoping it would be that easy.
Is that the actual spot, or will there be signs from there to up the hill somewhere?

Pretty sure that's the spot. It was at that location in 2012.

Is that a google satellite image? I didn't know you can pan like that. Very useful!

Pablo - that's the spot. Big wash area that's really great for a big group. Cross the railroad tracks and it's BLM land where they will set up a range for shooting if you are so inclined. Road off Split Mountain road runs right next to the railroad tracks. Very, Very silty!!!!!!! Keep your distance from the truck in front of you and pay attention to some sections that get a little deep and very soft - in other words keep your speed up or prepare to be winched out by a Jeep! Lots of sections you can get up and out of the road track and it's not quite so silty.

I saw that, but thanks for posting here. Almost nicer as it's not quite so far in from Split Mountain Road as the original location.
