OK, we can take turns being slow, no hurry just would like to make it to Kokopelli trail head with enough daylight to set up camp for the night. Ill being running red 91 fj80. Its about a 200 + miles so we should be able to make it in about 5 to 6 hours with timeouts and refueling.

Just a tip of the day for those of us with 80 Series. Just had an issue with knuckle studs (passenger side) falling out/breaking while on the trail. Short story.......check your nuts. Not a fun field repair.

80 will be going in for a knuckle, bearing and seal rebuild tomorrow definitely will have them inspected.
Thanks for the info.

Good to hear. Just some advice, check the knuckle studs after some driving/wheeling after you get this done. There is some potential that mating surfaces are not perfect when first bolted back together. A quick check afterwards will help close that gap.

Just wanted to give a few updates:

We were busy creating the Cruise Moab packets last night. The Pot Luck is STILL ON for Tuesday night and it's a great way for us to share food and drinks together. There is no obligation to join in, but bringing something to share with the group would be great. We may actually be losing one more member from the group and he was our smoked/pulled pork guy for the Potluck. I will make up the difference and be sure and bring that dish as well.

Breakfast will be provided Tuesday Morning at the meetup spot. There will be plenty of the best breakfast burritos Colorado has to offer. They will all have bacon, potato, egg and cheese unless someone has an allergy or is vegetarian. (Please let me know asap) We'll also have fresh fruit and coffee.

Look for an email with my contact info shortly. Just over two weeks until we hit the trail!

I will be leaving utah around 9 Monday morning, hoping to be there around 1 or 2. I'll also be bringing a bunch of ginger chicken skewers for the potluck on Tuesday.

I will be running last minute errands in grand junction on Monday afternoon and hope to be at camp around 5, not sure yet what we will be bringing for the potluck but we will bring something

John from Tennessee here, looking forward to another great trip to the West! This is my 6th Cruise Moab, but first time on the Kokopelli, looks to be a great adventure!

We will be in Moab prior to the event and look forward to seeing everyone Tuesday am!

We have one week before we all start heading towards Kokopelli trail head, may want to get ready!
The 80 is about as ready as I will ever get it, sure there are a lot of things that would be great if updated but not happen know.
Will be panic packing next weekend!
Be prepared for any weather condition! We had a blast of winter in Wyoming.

Just have to know that ya go offroading with the rig you have not the one you wish ya had.

I'm getting very excited about this trip and meeting all of you guys. This won't be your everyday trail with your buddies, this will be a very memorable experience. Complete all those final maintenance items and pack the trucks!!!!! One final request, bring a positive attitude, probably the best thing you can pack [emoji6]

Those breakfast burritos sound a lot better than the continental at the hotel. Do you need a headcount for breakfast? And, do you want us at the trailhead earlier for breakfast (earlier than the previously mentioned meet-up time)?

I'm going off of the official Kokopelli registration list. There is no need to show up early, although I will try and be set up and serving just before 9am. We will eat and socialize during tech inspection and the drivers meeting.

One of our Tail Gunners will be meeting us either on the trail or at Fish Ford Camp and he will be bringing the pulled pork for the potluck.

More info:

I just returned from the Kokopelli on Saturday. Conditions were absolutely terrible and I had to bail out near Dome Plateau due to dangerous conditions. We have seen an enormous amount of rain/snow over the last week (something we don't normally see for 3-4 days straight) Much of the first half of the trail has a layer of Bentonite and gray clay on it. This stuff soaks up water for the first 2 or 3 inches covering the ground. It's slicker than ice and makes travel impossible. I slid off the trail a few times and had almost no control. There are some off-camber areas with large drop-offs that were 100% impassable. Attempting Cisco Wash would have resulted in a certain rollover. I tried to bypass the areas on pavement and re-enter the trail east of Dome Plateau, but I quickly slid off the trail and down an embankment nearly rolling again. I called it quits at that point. I had already gotten stuck a few times and slid into a washout. Staying on trail was difficult even on flat ground and just simply traveling along the trail was creating ruts.

With that being said, I will be monitoring the weather closely over the next few days. We are expecting mostly dry conditions with a possibility of rain on Saturday. Thankfully, Sunday and Monday look to be full sunshine and high 70's. That should be plenty of time to dry everything out. If we get more heavy rain, we will be forced to pick and choose our sections. As a last resort, we will travel to Dewey Bridge and run the day 2 portion in reverse through Yellow Jacket Canyon. We will return to Dewey Bridge and run Top of the World trail (very difficult when wet, but should also be fun) We will camp at Robert's Bottom and attempt the day 3 portion the following day.

This is a LAST RESORT and I'm fully planning on us running the complete trail with no issues. The conditions I experienced over the last 4 days are not typical for this area. I encourage everyone to monitor the weather in Fruita Colorado and Moab Utah over the next week. Pack accordingly based on that forecast.
