Great time guys! The Keefer's had a blast. We've got some great pictures, but since we'll try and get them published we'll have to go in and decide which ones NOT to put on Mud.
A recap for those who didn't go. We arrived early Friday morning an set up camp, Sarah, Eric, and Mike and Julie had already arrived the night before and were having breakfast and hanging out.
Frisco Woods Soundside was a little wet for the trip, but not as bad as it has been in times past, and no issues with the campsite at all. Went over to Ocracoke after getting our passes and cruised on the beach for a little bit. Friday was a little cool and windy, with some rain off and on, but not terrible. We got a chance to look at both Hatteras and Ocracoke lighthouses in the same day. Got dinner out, after a lengthy wait for a busy ferry. (3 church busses took priority for those already in line, and they're dredging the channel so it takes a little longer to get back and forth.
Saturday's temperature and weather was perfect for a trip up north. Bodie Island and Currituck lights and Jockey's Ridge was on tap, and short stop overs for all. The main attraction was the trip onto the northern beach road, with not one encounter with the Outer Bank horses, but three separate occasions.
The last was almost hitting them as we crossed over the dunes to get back to trails on the sound side. Soft sand made it a challenge, and we had pause a little to let John's truck cool down, but shortly after we cooled all the trucks down by getting into some deep water that increased the pucker factor a little. Since the whole region had had some substanial rains in the past, and being close to the sound, and ground water, made for some pond fording!
We regrouped and had dinner at Outer Banks Brewing Station and some beer to celebrate a great day at the beach! I'll post some pics later today...
