Hello,

I have a new to me 2014 GX that I am loving so far. One thing has me a bit concerned, and I can't tell if its just me or something might be wrong. Occasionally when I drive, I will get a chatter from the rear. It feels like when you go off the interstate and hit those strips to wake you up. However from what I can tell it only comes from the rear. It happens very infrequently, to the point where I wonder if its a patch of road, but I happens enough for me to wonder if its my car. Some other things I have noticed, is that it only seems to happen when I'm going slow between 1,000 and 2,000 RPMS, but I cannot reproduce it, its just random. I did just get TRD wheels with AT tires 255/80/17, and I don't believe it was doing this before, but its possible I am misremembering (the first several times it happened I just assumed it was the road).

Any thoughts on this would be really helpful, I tried to search for this, but its a weird item to describe to search for. So maybe its a known issue

Thank you

Is it just a noise or does your rig actually shutter? Rpm isnt a speed. So how fast are you going when it happens? You can be doing 80 and still only 1000 rpm if you take your foot off the gas. Have you looked for rub marks in the fender well? Have you abused the rig in some offroading ? Pretty hard to diagnose without a complete history and all the information.

Sounds like your new 33” tires might be rubbing?
Is your 460 lifted, or at stock height? If stock height, my guess is you’re rubbing.
Not sure about the offset of the TRD wheels, but they might be tucked-in too much even if lifted a few inches, causing the tires to touch either inner fender pieces, or the UCA on occasion?

I'm assuming you're not hearing just when going back and forth (to work and back??) the same stretch of road when you hear it?
Does it happen regardless of what type of road, concrete, asphalt, bridges, etc.?

So as far as speed I've only heard it at pretty slow speeds 30-40mph, and it's not just noise there is an actual vibration.

If I accelerate or take my foot off the gas it stops, but regardless of what I do it only lasts 2-3 seconds or so when it happens.

As far as tire fitment, I am not lifted yet. But I modified the fenders enough for no rubbing, and with these skinnies they are no where near the UCA'S. It also only seems to happen going straight. It's so unpredictable even when it happens it's hard to know if any of these things are tied to it or not. I do notice it on similar stretches of road, I'm really hoping it's just the road and I'm being paranoid. I'm going on a trip soon, so I'll keep an eye on it and see if it happens elsewhere.

Could this be a transmission issue or drive shaft? I was able to reproduce it today by staying around 1500 rpm, it seems to do when shifting at low speeds around 1500 rpm. I'm at 124,000 miles, and I am not sure if a Transmission drain and fill has been done.
