Installing the dash harness from a South African GRJ79, it has a remote and key and a Toyota labeled imobilizer\door lock device that I would like to remove. My question is can this be removed and still operate the vehicle? I have a new ignition switch with key that I can swap out,

Anyone? Is the ECU impacted?

Hello,

70 Series ECUs are well protected. The harness' design ensures the ECU is the last component to break/damage.

However, this feature makes them very sensitive to changes in the ignition circuit.

Without going too much into alarm/immobilizer details (as these could help thieves,) it is better to leave it alone. The alarm/immobilizer affects the ignition circuit, and its removal may cause the ECU not to engage and the engine to flood. A flooded engine does not start unless you clean every sparkplug, crank the engine with the fuel pump disconnected and allow the fuel to vent out of the cylinders. It is not complicated but it is a real pain.

You can swap it for a new key but it is better to keep the remote.
