Paflytyer & Ace
Thank you for your replies. Looks like I will bring a tent and at least start out with my windshield up and soft top on.
I suspect most of you will be camping in Moab but does anyone have a hotel they recommend?
Thank you
Peter
I stayed here last year after the trip. Not cheap, but it's walking distance to CM headquarters, so that helps if you plan on having a few drinks at dinner. It was nice and looks even nicer now. Still under construction when I was there. I wouldn't wait to book a place, everything is usually filled up long before CM. http://www.ihg.com/holidayinnexpress/hotels/us/en/moab/cnymb/hoteldetail
Hello my TLCA camerads, i look forward to join you from germany again for this outstanding event. Already in your beautiful country, doing final work on the rig. Will be great to meet my old friends and make new ones. See you soon!
Hey guys has there been any further plans towards the potluck on Tues night? Id like to know what to bring. Otherwise it might just be hotdogs, chips and beer!
I am most likely bringing Pork Green Chile with fixings (Chips, tortillas, cheese etc)
I am a celiac (gluten intolerant) so whatever I bring will be gluten free (you'll never know the difference). I use rice flour instead of wheat flour to thicken the stew.
I have a close friend who is severely allergic to gluten, so Im quite used to gluten free food. Honestly I cant tell the difference. Even gluten free beer is good!
My name is Bill, coined the name Big country because apparently I dont talk like everyone else in Colorado, I have a past of racing dirt bikes in harescrambles and enduros, currently have a 72 Pontiac Ventura I fabricated a turbo kit on and converted to fuel injection, dyno'd 720hp at the wheels and still gets 12-15mpg and is pretty street able (seen in the garage with winters hibernation blocking it in), have a 90 Toyota pickup with a 4in lift and 35's that's my parts chaser, and a 95 Land cruiser that I used 4in sleep springs, modified the stock radius arms so they're longer and attach to the trans cross member, I'm sure it articulates slightly better, but it was a cheap way to get the correct caster and push the axle a little more forward so the springs aren't binding on the bumpstops. This is my first trip to moab, I'll be following paftyflyer out there. I'm going to smoke a pork shoulder for the potluck, Carolina style with a vinegar based sauce instead of most BBQ sauce that is ketchup or tomato base, I'll bring buns for people that want sandwiches.
Big Country and I work together and wheel/camp together often. He's pretty darn country but we're lucky to have him on this trip as he's one heck of a mechanic.
How many in the group are HAM radio operators? Or, at least carry a HH 2-meter radio just to listen? We're still missing a few members??
I am bringing 3lbs of West KY BBQ but planned on breaking it out on another night so I didn't upstage big C. I can serve it on Tuesday if we want variety.
Peter
Did the Mojave Road a few weeks ago and we did a "pirate goulash". Frenchie brought a big stew pot and everyone dumped something in. Only rule was no fish parts. It was surprisingly good. Of course after a day on the trail I could eat dog biscuits with lots of beer to wash it down. We could do that as a back up for the pork shoulder and other "real food". Not everyone has replied but expect everyone will bring something to contribute.
Please don't forget a couple of bundles of firewood. More if possible. Please be sure you have good tie downs if your carrying the wood on your rack. Good ratchet straps work best, please no bungie cords.
Looks like the weather is going to be good Monday and great by Saturday. Starts out 65/40 and climbs each day to 80/50 with nearly no chance of rain.
I plan to be at Rabbit Valley around 3 PM Monday to secure a site with room for all. For those coming in Tuesday AM just follow the BCC signs.
Note to Kevin: you did Mengle Pass with no damage? You will find RGH and TOW a notch or two harder. Looks like your running stock bumpers. There are plenty of ledges where your back will hit and drag a lot. Damage likely but mostly cosmetic stuff.
Note to all: please ensure your truck is equipped with solid rescue attachments. We have had to strap or winch others off high points in the past. A trailer ball is not a rescue point.
Great hearing from everyone! I just sent out an email with some updates! The potluck is on indeed and I am updating the list on the first page with what people have indicated they are bringing. Echoing what Ace said above, Please bring a bundle or two of firewood as the nights will be getting down into the mid-upper thirties. Looking forward to meeting you all in the desert in less than a week!
I'll be making a couple batches of dutch oven peach cobbler!
Hi, my name is joe and this will also be my 2nd kokopelli and we had great time last year. Sorry for the late introduction. I am coming up fr st. George, ut and planning to leave on monday morning. I will be driving 80 series which has some extra weight added on. Last year event was very well organized and the whole group was amazing.
As for the POTLUCK, I could bring some potato salad or chicken salad and 7 layers dip or cheese ball with some chips. See u all soon..

No we walked right thru it, just have to stay on top of the rocks. Already cracked the lenses on the taillights from the bumper being pushed up. Just had my son jump up and down on the ends to get bumper back in shape. I f I tear it up to bad, ( good excuse to up grade ) I'll get a different bumper.
Oh wife and I will be bringing sphegetti and Cookies.
Peterb don't worry about that, the more the better, I'm probably going to smoke it tomorrow night and might do a second one depending on how many more people chime in and how I can pack it all.
Big C - that's nice of you. I will plan on contributing our pork BBQ, unless one of the other guys I'm coming out with has something better (unlikely).
Rod and his cousin in Rod's all black FJC and Kirk and his son in Kirk's Smurf FJC and me in my soft half-top BJ-74 are leaving Saturday morning (4/26). Yes, it takes 4 burly parole officers to keep me in line! We're staying in Kansas tomorrow night and Grand Junction on Sunday night (if everything holds together). We plan on seeing the advance crew on Monday afternoon and camping Monday night.
Looking forward to the trip and meeting all you nice folks!
Peter
