2014 4Runner Trail (1 Viewer)

I've had my 1994 4Runner SR5 since new and think, after 20 years of ownership, it may make sense at replacing it. All that new the, blue teeth, I pod connection, nag, etc. Anyone buy a 2014 yet? How do you like it? Worth getting over a 2010-2013?

I just bought a 2014 trail edition premium with KDSS and I LOVE it! The upgrades from the 2013 are worth it and there was a price decrease for the 2014 trails. The premium comes with Softex seats (similar to leather) with red stitching. You also get a sunroof in the premium.

Having looked at both, I agree. The 2014 interior is a huge step up in my opinion. Of course it's based mostly on the styling so that's subjective, but from my subjective point of view, yes the 2014 is worth it.

Considering the used value (practically the same as new around here), the 2014 is what I'll probably buy.

Four Wheeler just tested a '14 4Runner as part of their 'Four Wheeler of the Year' test...you might find and read that test for more info. You may dislike some of the electronic nannies.

Drove one ( briefly ) at the Houston auto show.

Handles great, and the 4.0(?) V-6 has waaaaaaaaaaaay more power than my 3.4.

Brakes rock, too.

Diff lock is a push button in front of the mirror , and the styling of the front end is not exactly my cup of tea. The Limited is more 'traditional, but I don't think you can get the locker on one, though.

I'd have to read on the electronic nannies SteveH mentioned, but I suspect there is no getting around them on any new vehicle now.

Sticker was 41,9XXX IIRC.

By comparison, a fully loaded Jeep Wrangler 2 door was 38K - WTF ?

No wonder the Wrangler 4 door did not have a price on it !!

At any rate, good luck - our '00 is paid for, so I will stick w/ it for a while.

meh, I'd stick with the 3rd gen as well, 3.4 is bullet proof, the size is just right, I think it has a timeless design. I like the new 4Skinners betther than the 4th gens but I think the 3rd may be the best all-around car/truck ever made.

1994 is a 2nd gen. But I agree the 3rd gen is the sweet spot.

I have a soft spot for 3rd gens as well. I had 2 in the past and they were awesome. However, I was single as well. With a family, they're bit too tight. Plus the comfort level of the later gens bodes well with the other family members. If I were to get a dedicated solo (or +1) vehicle, the 3rd gen or 1st gen Taco would be high on the list.

X3 on the 3rd Gen as well. I bought mine off my Dad, he replaced it with a 4th Gen. Still regrets selling it to me, mainly over the styling. Saving up for some of those leather replacement seat covers, she will look good as new then.

I picked up a 2014 Premium (moonroof) Trail Edition. It's nicely capable off the rack but I've owned 2 FJ40s so That's my basis for comparison. Sure, I'm getting older so the cushy interior is a welcome change from a stamped steel interior. I appreciate getting more than 12 mpg, too.

I'm just back from Pismo. It worked well in the sand provided you air down to 20psi. More suspension lift and articulation is called for (TRD Pro +) I don't know anyone that makes a bumper and winch setup for that ugly front grill yet. Anybody know?

The stock Dunlop tires are crap in my opinion. Good for soccer games and not much else. I've had 2 flats in 5000 miles. I'm not fond of the shiny wheels either. Looks like I'll be getting new wheels and tires all around.

With the lift, new tires and wheels, winch, bumper, rear tire/fumet rack/bumper it may make it to Alaska.

The best accessory so far? A Tepui roof tent. It's a great way to go.

Why? I purchased my 93 4Runner new, and after 21 years I still love the truck. When I got my 06 (new) I retired the 93 did a SAS, 4.5" lift and 35's. Sold the FJ40. Best thing I have done for wheeling. A super reliable truck that has never let me down or stranded, even after 21 years and 204000 + miles. The 93 is a much better made truck with better materials and finish then the 06. So keep the 94 and if you want buy the 14.

I think you could probably buy some nice shocks for less than the price of the pro package. That seems to be all it has except stickers.

I think it depends on your plans. It's already got a leveling kit, better shocks, heavy duty skid plates, etc. that some could find benefitial (financially). They would also come with a factory warranty, which would be nice. Honestly, I am a very mild "wheeler" and a pro package would suffice for me for what I do.

sold my fjc due to grabing a contact with my bomb dog and needing more room . so i picked up my 2014 te last week , put 400 miles on it now , i think its verry nice and still will do good off road . i like the ride much better from fj , how quite it is ( dont hear rack and mirrer noise as i did in fj , and lots of space i can sleep comfy in the back . and also fit my dog crate and supplys when i travel to diff locations, imo the trd pro will be a waist of near 45.000 u can get a TE for 33000 put 5 initand have a better set up. i dont recoment the nav( ITS COMPLICATED ) go get a 200 garmin are use your phone. also i dont recoment the etune premium crap . yes it has xm blaaa blaaa but i have free i tunes radio and pandora.. wellim shut up all in all its a great new vehicle and yest on the t4r fourms they do have a some bumpers out and sliders and a few good builds going on .

I picked up a '14 upgrade, moonroof, leather, heated seats etc... Great little truck, perfect grocery getter!
