All,

I am swapping the OEM roof rack on my 2013 LX570 for a 2013-2015 LC200 used OEM rack. Does anyone know the bolt torque for the mounting hardware? Any tips to prevent water ingress (is the stock rubber sufficient)?

I found a thread from @Boston Mangler about a rack delete kit that had torque numbers (20-21 ft-lbs), but am uncertain if they apply to roof rack hardware or just the elimination kit covers.

Adding this thread about an LX570 to LC200 swap here for other searchers.

For a 2018 LC, (I don't think there is a difference in a between the years).
INSTALL ROOF CARRIER ASSEMBLY

(a) Clean the threaded surface on the vehicle body with a non-residue solvent.

(b) Apply adhesive to the threads of the 10 bolts.

Adhesive:

Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent

(c) Install the roof carrier with the 10 bolts.

Torque:

for labeled A :

39 N·m {398 kgf·cm, 29 ft·lbf}

for labeled B :

31 N·m {316 kgf·cm, 23 ft·lbf}

(d) Adjust the roof rack support position and tighten the roof carrier caps.

There are several threads on here about sealing / water protection. Some I referenced years ago:

I used Permatex on mine 5+ years ago and truck sits outside in the open. No issues so far but plan to reseal in Spring.

Thank you for all of this. I noticed that the Toyota sealant is actually a thread locker not an RTV... is that step really necessary or is a loctite red sufficient? What does toyota expect to perform the sealing function if not the thread locker?

These threads support my thesis.

There is a logic to the madness ...
There are seals to be installed on the rack feet that seal the rack to the roof. If damaged or just to be sure get new seals.
Pay attention at the bolts. They have rubber coated washers on both sides for sealing the bolts to the rack. If they are missing or damaged get new bolts.
Toyota does not use any sealant because of the described seals above.
There is thread locker on the bolts. It does not/cannot seal the roof.

Very IMPORTANT use some long studs to keep the threaded plates from falling inside the roof and making a relatively easy job into a complicated one having to drop the liner. I got them on amazon. You need 8 (not 6) to install one rail at a time. They are same thread as the bolts. For each foot, you replace one bolt with a stud, then hold on that stud and replace the other bolt with a stud. This way even if the plate falls you can pull it back by the studs.

I just used my preferred brand of blue thread locker.

I absolutely would not use loctite red on that hardware. If you are forced to deal with a leak later you will not get the hardware loose without a torch.. or you could just break the bolts off. Both of which will require dropping the headliner.
