2010 Overland Expo - LOTS of Pics

Went to the Overland Expo outside Tucson Arizona while you guys were doing your "Expedition Ride" last weekend.

There are about 60-70 pics so it may take a while for them to load. I have 1600x1200 if anyone wants them. We had great weather on Friday, little warmer on Saturday and had some of the best food I have ever eaten in my life. Met tons of cool people, watched two adventure travel movies and relaxed for a few days. Then had to come back to ATL at Midnight last night :frown:

Jon

#1 - NAS Defender 90 in the parking lot
#2 - Sprinter Van converted to 4wd by Sportsmobile
#3 - Eco Roamer (build can be seen on Expedition Portal)

Cant figure out how to put captions under pics, the images dont show up in the text like they do on pirate.

#1 - One of the many F-550 based rigs we saw. Pretty nice bed with plenty of storage and a Lance Camper on the bed.

#2 - Dodge Cummins based Camper, built onto the chassis (not a slide in truck camper) Cost was about 75k plus truck.

#3 - Tons of FJ Cruisers and Land Rovers around and some of the grounds.

#1 - Custom Camper built on a Deuce, for sale at $150k

#2 - Turtle Five and some Cruisers lined up. Many of them caravanned together from from Colorado and several of the cruisers ran on Veggie Oil.

#3 - Converted Troopie, actually built on a modified NAS Cruiser frame (stretched 40 or shortened 60, not sure) and had a 1HZ Diesel swapped into it running on veg. It was built by Proffitt's Cruisers. They also had new 2008 Troopie bodies from the Egyptian Military that they would sell or install onto your choice of NAS Cruiser chassis.

1971 Steyr Puch Pinzgauer 710K for sale for $38,000. Very well built and nicely equipped.

#1 - Defender 110 Tdi early 2000s model

#2 - Defender 90 Tdi and Range Rover Tdi, both Euro Spec

#3 - NAS FJ60 converted to Diesel with a 3.0L Powerstroke motor from a Ford Ranger in Brazil. The motor was purchased directly from the factory and installed by TLC. The transmission is HF55 with a custom adapter plate and the factory transfer case that came with that transmission. The truck was completely rebuilt and restore and was in excellent condition.

#1 - Defender 110 pickup, diesel of course, Euro Spec, early 2000's model. Guy laughed when I asked him how he got it in and got it registered with AZ plates. This conversation was repeated several times throughout the weekend.

#2 - Mitsubishi Canter (Fuso/FG140 in US) from Canada that had been driven all over the world.

#3 - Overland Journal had a kick ass tent set up (from Executive Tents) and a Royal Enfield motorcycle was loaned to them from a private collection for display.

#1 - Same Canter as above

#2 - Another Defender 110, this one may have been one of the 500 NAS imported in 1993, I have lost count at this point.

#3 - Pretty unusual four door (without rear doors) Ford Ranger with a flip top tent. I dont remember where it was from.

#1 - One of the many adventure trailers we saw, this was one of the only off road teardrops and seemed to be made very well.

#2 - Sleeping inside and on the roof with a kitchen in the back. They also had an air compressor in a small toolbox and a tent heater in a small toolbox, very small and portable, 12v or 110v.

#3 - One of the many van conversions we saw with pop top roofs like the old Westfalia VWs (several of those there too, along with some Syncros)

#1 - Land Rover Forward Control (FC101) Four Door setup for audio and video presentations with TVs and speakers and such.

#2 - Very nice UZJ-100 and a cool guy to talk to as well. He is the NA distributor for National Luna refrigerators (12v - 220v) Very well insulated and use very little power, but $$$ compared to ARB, Engel and some others.

#3 - One of two Global Expedition vehicles on site, this one was not even 100% completed yet. Both were driven from the factory in Missouri to the site outside Tucson, by the husband and wife team that own the company. Seemed to be pretty well made (not Unicat quality) but very nice. They are huge up close with a massive Fabco front axle on this one, plenty of room in the cab and 46"tires. Price was 400- 500k depending on options. Rear box only weighs about 6000 pounds, all made from composites and aluminum.

#1 - One of the last NAS Unimogs sold, GEV bought all the ones they could find. This one had dealer plates on it still and was for sale for 350k or so, IIRC. Height is about 12-6 and tires are 44" tall. Its a U500 chassis and the interior controls can move from left to right on slide rails for travel in other parts of the world.

#2 - International 3L engine from Tan FJ60 in previous post above. Very nice installation.

#3 - Massive air bag support plate from the Freightliner M2 GEV in the previous post. Everything on these trucks is huge if you have never seen them up close.

#1 - Old school Gelaendewagen before the thugs and the Dunwoody housewives got ahold of them :flipoff2:

#2 - Another nice G-Wagen with an adventure trailer. I believe both of these were diesel as well. Formerly, Europa International imported these trucks and federalised them. Now Mercedes has interfered (dont remember all the details), but they still sell used ones and may be able to import older models as well)

#3 - A NAS D90 parked a vendors tent who was selling some kind of cookware. They had good stuff cooking all weekend and always had a crowd.

#1 - One of the smallest adventure trailers I saw, you could probably pull this thing behind a large motorcycle. Behind a heep or a truck you would not even know it was there.

# 2-3 The only Tundra that I saw, pretty nicely equipped and kindof a cool colour and theme. Tires were 39's I think.

#1 - 2 - Hummer H1 set up for luxury adventure travel and towing a trailer. Interior was all saddle leather with DVD screens on the dash and in the headrests, etc. Tires were 41" IROKs and looked perfect for the truck. Roof rack was massive and could hold a NYC apartment. Trailer was pretty nice too and the vendor who owned it was selling miniature cameras, (Total Vision Products: The new standard in mobile vision products) which he had mounted all around the Hummer and trailer and they were routed to a video screen in the dash. Resolution was somewhere between VHS and DVD, but it looked good on a smallish 7" screen.

#3 - Old school Camel Trophy Rover with sand ladders. Amazing what these guys did in largely stock vehicles.

#1 - Old Land Rover, dont know the series and year and such, Im not a rover guy :flipoff2: it was a cool truck though and had been used well. It was RHD, IIRC. Not sure about gas or diesel.

#2 - AEV had a large display area with several Brutes and Hemi (meh) converted heeps. No diesel conversions were at the show but they have done several.

#3 - No Limit X - Land Rover Defender Overland Adventure Travel Expeditions showed these two Defenders, both diesel from South America and relatively recent iterations. Seemed very well built and they are used for guided self drive expeditions through South and Central America. Get out your American Express Card.

#1 - 2 - Super cool Australian dude who lives in OH, imported this 70 series into America from Oz and proceeded to swap in a 1HZ motor into it. He builds and sells the trailers that are in the back ground of the first pic with a tent on top and the beds that are attached to the truck. They sell for up to 30k depending on options.

The rear is a tray back, so all of the Rubbermaid type boxes are left exposed. They are however locked to the bed and they are on heavy duty slide outs. There are air, water and fuel tanks under the tray and connections for water, gas and power around it. The RTT is a Maggiolina, one of the best.

#3 - New body (2008+) Ford E-350 van with a high top conversion (fixed) done by Sportsmobile.

#1 - NAS 40 with a 1HZ motor swapped in. Nice colour and seemed to be well built.

#2 - The cool body style Tacoma (before Toyota ruined it) with a bed top tent and drawers underneath.

#3 - Euro Spec Diesel 110 with fixed high top roof conversion.

Last ones from my camera, will post others from the other cameras when I get them. I have tons of cards and brochures and met a really cool guy who is into Toyota and Suzuki stuff and is a damn good fabricator too. If you are willing to drive to Toccoa/Clayton area, he will be glad to do work for club members.
