I'm looking at a cruiser that has 200k miles on it, the Birf were just replaced with longfields, the head gasket, TC, and Water pump will all be replaced when I get it. What are some questions I should be asking the guy, hes a master tech for M Benz.

ITs got the 3" OME lift, ARb bumper and 285/75/16 New Tires. It also has new pads all around.
I would have to buy it off of pictures alone unless htere is someone in Iowa to look at it?

Thanks guys.

Should I be scared of it?

Don't be scared of it unless you open the door to your dark garage and it jumps out at your wearing this mask.

I wouldn't be afraid, especially noting his profession. High mileage equals a deduction in price, and mods and maintenance equal some adjustment up in the price. Just make sure you feel comfortable with the deal. I personally figure mileage on an LC is equal to about half of the mileage on other cars. With 200K on the clock it's gonna need some TLC, but if you take care of everything that wears normally you'll have a dependable rig.

BE afraid, be very afraid...Run away from it..Too much Halloween rubbing off on you..?:D .. 200K cruiser, just warming up.. Just pay extra attention to your cruiser's maintence needs, and you will start another thread asking 300k miles, Should I be scared of it?

Whereabouts in Iowa? I may be able to help out.

Do a compression check. I bought my 93 with 200k on it. That was three years ago and I paid $5k for it. I thought i had a pretty good deal, but then ended up dropping over $1k into the front axle just in parts. My compression ended up being pretty low even though the engine ran just fine. Now I'm pushing 270k miles and the motor is getting pretty tired. Tranny is starting to act up. Even if you figure that you could get away with another 75-100k miles, make sure you can justify a few major repairs with the cheap purchase price. There is a 96 here down the road that is on ebay right now with 128k miles that has a sticker price of $8800, no lockers. The interior is trashed, ripped seats, filth everywhere. Front and rear bumpers have been hit and repainted recently. The drivetrain seems solid though. It would be alot easier for me now to justify some cosmetics with a rig with lower miles.

I bought my 80 for $5K, with 200,000 miles. Now has ~263,000. Runs strong. Lots of little things "could" be replaced...but everything works. Pretty amazing.

Mine has 423,000km(262,000miles) and still purrs along like a kitten, if they have been well maintained like mine has then there would be no real problems. My old hilux was well looked after and did not stop for 600,000(372,000miles).
