You can dream but those are simply updated '70 series NOT the new series. The updated '70 series is out already in the privileged parts of the world (I was wheeling with one a few months ago), we still get the mall cruisers.

In my post I never insinuated they were the new series, but that I like the new styling of the 2008 (the same as the 2007, incidently).

Or, how to stir the Cruiserless, North American-s***pot.

If we're talking about looks-only? I think the LR Discovery II or III is the all time best looking SUV.

The D3 can be mistaken for a mercedes sprinter van from the back. They really missed the boat on that one.
The D2 was the best looking of the discoveries, but has nothing on a RRC or Mercedes G wagon.

I think the new 200 will be a great vehicle just as the 80 was better than the 60 and the 100 is better than the 80. I have already put an order in for a TD and was told by Toyota that I am about number 1500 on the order list here in OZ. Audi have announced the release of the 4.2 TD V8 here in Sept with 760 nm of torque which makes the LC look a bit sad so I might have to rethink my order.

At least you can ask for and get a turbo-diesel. Over here in North America we are not so priveleged. All we get are the gasser mall 'Cruisers.

Toyota is on a slippery slope.

Their is alot of electronic crap on the 08 that i would hate to try and fix after warranty expiration. Hate the exterior, what was toyota thinking, first the FJ, and now this! very sad indeed. The interior is gorgeous at least.

As for the 80 bashing, I own a 95 fzj80 built, and a 04 100 bone stock. Apples & Oranges, The 80 is a much better trail rig (soild axle, factory frt&rr lockers). The 100 is a nicer traveling vehicle(safer, more power, better refinement) but does not have the character or reputation of the 80. Both are very reliable vehicles but my heart will always be in my 80.

In my opinion anything with a Landcruiser badge on it is well built.

Toyota are still thinking in 90% of Cruiser buyers that never gonna use it off road .. and if they are now the 1st vendor in the world I thought ( naa pretty sure ) that they exactly what to do to keep this place ..

Their is alot of electronic **** on the 08 that i would hate to try and fix after warranty expiration.

An electrical engineer once told me "Because windows crashes all the time, people expect all electronics to do the same".

He's dead right. The paranoia people place on electronic items is misplaced. Unlike mechanical components, electronics don't wear out and generally give very little trouble.
I owned a 1987 toyota corolla for a short while, it had 240,000km on it and was EFI.

It did grind to a stop on me one day, the problem was the alternator brushes.

True, but when it does give trouble it's BIG problems!! You can't just look at it and see the problem like you can with mechanical devices. That makes trail repairs MUCH more difficult. With mechanical devices you can usually bypass or band-aid it but with electronics, if it's dead you likely aren't going anywhere!!

The new L 570 looks like every other Lex. Over priced, plastic s***.

Is there any way possible to get one of these from central america?

I'd be glad to drive one up for you but import, licensing and ANY other fees, hassles, red tape etc. are YOUR problem.

There is absolutely no comparison (IMO) between the 2008 Cruiser and the current Range Rover. The new cruiser looks to be a horrible excuse for a "so called" Land Cruiser. Toyota's designers have obviously lost it, at least in the terms of the exterior. Unless the pictures of the '08 LC are terribly flawed, then it looks like the RR will again be tops in the luxury SUV world, and my $$ will be going twards a 2007 Range Rover S/C. If I wanted to buy something that looks like a Highlander, then I would buy a Highlander, not a Land Cruiser !! :crybaby::crybaby::crybaby:

I'm biased, but I don't believe the landcruiser has ever threatened the rangie as the top luxury vehicle.

You should try to grey market import a diesel rangie, the BMW 6 cyl or TDV6 in the sport would be an excellent choice. Still nothing on the new TDV8 though.:bounce:

I also have never considered the LC to be anywhere near the Range Rover, at least in terms of classiness or "snob" appeal. Adding some chrome here and there (LX) doesn't cut it either. I guess a LC would really be more of a competitor to the Disco 2/3. If I had a Land Rover dealership here where I live there wouldn't be any question which one I would have ...

Looks are one thing that is subjective. I thing the NRR is very ugly (as is the LR3). Now, the DiscoII? Sweet.

I also prefer the look of the disco series II to the LR3. But I think the current RR (L322) is a massive improvement on the P38 and only just improves on the original classic.

Yeah. I agree, and it's a shame, too, because Lexus is certainly aiming for that exact market. They intend to be THE luxury brand, and though they've gotten pretty close with their cars, they're woefully short with their SUV's

I tend to agree with you on this. If the LX doesn't look any better in person, my LX470 replacement likely won't carry a Lexus badge....why can't anyone else make something cool AND reliable?!?!?

That's NRRover is a cheap-ass 5-seater!
