Used 2008 Lexus LX 570 Base For Sale | PK4297A | Hickory, NC | King Suzuki

Feeling lucky?

This recently popped up in Hickory, NC. Only reason I'm posting it because if you view the CarFax history, this vehicle looks lovingly maintained. However, pop open the actual Lexus service history and you'll see at 84k miles the vehicle appears to have received new main bearings (and crankshaft) and rod bearings due to scoring on both. The vehicle then comes back at 86k because it overheated, evidently due to a few loose bolts?

Cosmetically speaking, this LX looks nice with only some damage on driver seat bolster.

It's priced aggressively but wanted any potential buyer to be aware of this history as it clearly comes with a few caveats. Could be a deal if you're willing to roll the dice a little bit though!

Can you explain some more about "roll the dice a little bit"? What kind of problems should we expect? Thanks

I wouldn't say to expect problems as much as it is fear of the unknown. Someone else can chime in if they've seen bearing issues in 5.7s but I would say that's far outside any issues sometimes seen with this motor. This would make me think that engine bearing replacement is not something typically done by mechanics at a Lexus dealer. Records would indicate it was not assembled correctly given the overheating experienced afterwards (sure, mistakes happen, I'm sure I couldn't put it back together without some hiccups). The follow-up work to fix the overheating doesn't make a ton of sense to me: "cooler assembly leaking due to missing bolts." And while the bearings were replaced, there still remains why did they need to be replaced. Previous owner drove it low on oil? Were certain internal tolerances incorrect from the factory? Hell, rod bearing replacement is normal "maintenance" on some BMW SXX motors but that's a different beast.

Clearly it doesn't appear to have grenade'd itself in the 15k miles since this work was performed so all might be peachy keen. In theory it should be good for several hundred thousand more miles, especially now that motor has also been resealed.

I think the service history also demonstrates that the FL owner wasn't perhaps the most diligent caretaker. They declined brake work when 1mm of pad was reported. Granted they came back in another month and had the work done. They actually did report a low oil level light came on early in the vehicle's life. Dealer said oil level turned out to be fine.

Any used car purchase comes with risk (I suppose all car purchases in reality). I choose the wording as I would argue given the vehicle's history, perhaps you're assuming more risk with this car than another with a spotless history. Some may disagree.

If I were to talk to the dealer, I'd be most curious why it's for sale again 6 months after they sold it the first time. Short of hearing someone at the dealer picked it up from auction for personal use or that the previous buyer got behind on payments, I find it interesting it's for sale again at the same dealer in such a short period of time.

edit: attached service history so you don't have to go find it
