Hi Guy's, I have a 2008 LC with 150k on it and have owned it for 10 years all parts are original. I noticed a small CAM Tower leak on the passenger side it's probably been leaking for years. My LC is in excellent stock shape and figure it's worth fixing vs finding something different to drive since it meets all my needs.

The Toyota dealer will replace the CAM Towers and recommends the following.

  • Water Pump
  • Spark Plugs
  • Timing Chain? Didn't know this should be replaced.
  • Tensioners
  • Fan Belt
  • Rear main seal
Should I replace the stock radiator while they are in there and is there anything else that I should consider?

This is going to be a chunk of $$ so would like to do the essential while they are in there.

Thanks in advance.

If original radiator, then yes.
Add pcv valve, very cheap.
Fan bearing/support?
Thermostat.
Timing chain doesn't need replacement, it is just one of just because you are in there, and it will keep it quiet for longer time, before inevitable chatter will resume.

The only thing that catches me off-guard in the rear main seal. I presume they have identified an additional leak in your rear main seal?

^right, missed that. Towers fix is with the engine in place. Rear main seal requires dropping the transmission.
Do you mean FRONT seal?

Cam tower leak? Timing chain? Rear main seal? At only 150k miles? Is this a Toyota? Sheesh.

I'd ignore all of that. Add oil if you have to. Not worth the $$ you put in especially paying dealership labor, and it being an 08.

DIY replace the rad+water pump+plugs+serp belt. Then just keep driving it.

Is it an actual cam tower leak or just the common timing chain cover leak? Usually at the top of the cover where it contacts the cam tower. Most of the leak will be on the front of the engine, usually worse in drivers side.
