So I've recently come across this guy on YouTube during my general search for LX content - Last Line of Defense. Although he's more of a lifestyle channel, he does have a 2008-ish LX that he's done quite a few things to. Regardless of his other stuff, he does seem to take the time to do his research on what he's doing and is pretty knowledgeable.

Something in particular he did recently was swap over the steering wheel from what looks like a newer LX. From the video below (starting around 35:40 minute mark) it looks like it's just plug and play. Has anyone done this successfully? I'm hesitant messing with something so important especially with an airbag right there. And it looks like he didn't even unplug his battery while doing it. 😲

The finished product though looks great and for it to be able to retain all the buttons is key.

A few other things to note:
  • I scrolled through the comments and the new wheel is NOT heated. He says his 2008 LX didn't have heated steering wheel from the factory. I have a 2013 and that is definitely something I'd want to keep.
  • Not sure if the wheel is OEM or aftermarket. Looking on eBay I've seen similar ones like THIS.
  • I'm not too familiar with other Lexus steering wheels but it looks like the "updated" 3 spoke models might be interchangeable with other cars? Ex: LX, RX, GX, etc....

Yes - makes me hesitant as well. Almost seems too good to be true if it really is plug and play.
