Here is the story. A friend of mine has had this RRS for some time and I have always admired it. I have had a Disco II, LR3, 68 Series II, LR2, and a FFRR. He is a LR enthusiast just like I am. When he told me he was considering getting rid of the Sport or trading it in, I jumped on the opportunity to buy it. I have done some basic maintenance and I am considering listing it on ebay (I have). I need something fuel efficient, and have a project Rover in the works. I just couldn't see this get traded in.

He purchased it via Baker Land Rover with about 29,000 miles. Almost all miles are highway traveling from Charleston to UK, Kentucky. It has been maintained and repaired with an open check book. It was dealer serviced up until 99,000 miles. I have every single record dating back to 2006. It was serviced via a LR Indy mechanic after that, again I have all records. (A folder of about $30,000 worth of maintenance from the day the car was born). The truck has also never been off road, and it shows it. All modifications are reversible and were for aesthetics.


2006 Range Rover Sport HSE - 121,XXX Miles.
-Buckingham Blue with cream interior.
-Updated NAV, heated front and rear seats, sunroof, DVD players in the headrest, Harmon Kardon stereo, Tranzit Blu Bluetooth for music/phone
-Prewired of sub, and hardwired for Valentine 1 or detector of your choice
-Johnson Rod's, Land Rover 20'' Stormer Wheels, Nitto Terra Grapplers (less than 2,000 miles on them), BAJA Roof Rack, weather tech floor mats
-2 Keys, owners manuals, and all records.

It recently had sway bar bushings, and E brake completely replaced. ($$$$$)

Since I bought it I went ahead and placed a big order via Rock Auto and had some PM work done:
-Front Brake Pads - Powerstop Ceramics (lower dust)
-Air filter and cabin filter
-8 Iridium spark plugs
-Oil Change
-PCV valve and the coolant drain T.
-Power-steering flush
-Front and Rear differential fluids, and transfer case fluid. (Used LR's annoyingly overpriced fluids)
-Full coolant flush with DEX
-Cleaned MAF and TB

The truck does have Johnson Rods installed which gives it a minor amount of lift. It is still fully adjustable, and lowers at highway speeds. It is a cosmetic mod, and does add to the off road capabilities.


All of those items have been addressed in the past, but its cheap insurance. The truck drives great and needs nothing. It was in Florida and then in South Carolina, the truck has never seen snow or salt. It is completely rust free and has never been in an accident. I have a clean carfax in hand, and can provide detailed records to serious buyers. The truck is not perfect, but shows very little wear inside and out. One of the cleaner, well documented and enthusiasts owned trucks on the market.

RR makes good looking vehicles. Is the $30K really "maintenance" needed over the firs 100K miles!?! Or does that include modifications/upgrades?
 
That's a realistic maintenance & upgrade budget for 120,000 miles on a 2006 RR Sport. It's a $69,000 vehicle when new. When you do brakes, you replace the pads AND rotors every time (thanks, BMW). Transmissions last 60k to 70k miles. If it hasn't had one yet, it needs one. About $7,000 to R&R with a brand new one (do NOT get a rebuilt one). Electronics fail, no warranty. Each ECU is at least a $1,000. Air suspension is a minimum of $600 per corner if you do the work yourself. These vehicles perform incredibly off-road in stock form, but they don't come cheap. And the big thing, if you do not have an expert independent Land Rover mechanic that works on these regularly, DO NOT PAY SOMEONE ELSE TO LEARN HOW TO FIX YOUR LAND ROVER. And in most cases, genuine parts.

I have a 1991 Range Rover Hunter without most electronics or complicated air suspensions and I spend nearly $4,000 a year on maintenance and upgrades.

Tis true the trans last a good long while with proper fluid change. It is a ZF trans and they are built very well.
