Buyer Beware:
2006 Lexus GX470 only 24k miles
In case anyone here was eying this, there are a few things you may want to know:
I test drove this truck during my search. The guy is a flipper who bought it from an NYPD auction. The miles check out (only 21k back in November when I drove it) as the tires are original and look like a dry lake bed. The dash is shattered and the interior looks like it was used to taxi a football team back and forth to practice its whole life. The history goes like this: two months after the original owner bought it brand new, it was stolen. It was not recovered by the NYPD until eight months later, at which time they simply kept it. It was likely used to fetch donuts, do stakeouts, and hop curbs. It has ZERO service records as it was maintained in-house by the NYPD, which also explains why the dash wasn't warrantied. The left front inner wheel area was covered in black ooze that was either a ruptured brake caliper or torn CV boot. Sad, really, because it's a Sport model with black wood interior and KDSS with extremely low miles, and the flipper freshened the exterior with a repaint in the original color. The guy only paid ~$9000 for it as I was accidentally shown the auction paperwork. Had this been Grandma's church wagon it'd be a steal, but as it sits it's as risky as gas station sushi.
