Hey guys,

I’m replacing the starter contacts in my starter (28100-50101). I ordered the victory lap rebuild kit off amazon, but they don’t fit.

I have tried searching for Toyota OEM parts to rebuild, but I am having a hard time finding part numbers.

Does anyone know the Toyota part numbers for the plunger, contacts and perhaps the spring too?

I don't think that gen starter is rebuild-able.

Did your starter give you early symptoms before failing? E.g. slow crank? or did it all of a sudden die?

Whenever I have issues with the Denso starters it starts out as one day you turn the key and nothing happens, then a second or two later it starts. Then normal and out of the blue the same thing. After a while you turn the key and nothing happens and it takes a few turns before the starter cranks. Then after some time it never cranks and you have to rebuild/replace.

ahh i see i see. I remember my GS400's starter dying once. It did slow cranks when trying to start the motor... the replacement took some work however it didint have a SAIS.. Hopefully OP takes some good pics of the install :)

I ended up replacing the starter, because I had a rat get in and chew through the knock sensors. So I figured, while the intake manifold was off, I better change the starter.

dont forget the collant bridge gasket too since they will eventually leak like mine did.

I did the 2 gaskets on the rear eng coolant bypass pipe, which I think is the bridge you're referring to, the o-ring on the water pipe, and new intake manifold gaskets. This new starter sounds way stronger than the original. Starts like a champ!

The starters in our UZ motors are very much rebuildable.
Plenty of aftermarket Denso starter rebuild kits available...
Lexus Part numbers:
28226-50080 Motor Terminal contact
28226-50070 Battery Terminal contact
28235-54380 Plunger with new contact ring

But those work up to a certain year production. Maybe up until 2004 or 2005. The starter 28100-50101 doesn't have those parts available.

What makes you say that?

It is the same starter for all Toyota/ Lexus 2UZFE with 2.0kw starter; UZJ120 from 2004- 2009

All I know is when I enter my data for that part it says not compatible. Also only compatible for up to certain year Toyota as well.

There might be slight variations between starters over the years, but they are all rebuildable, and dollars to donuts they are interchangeable.
It is just a matter of sourcing the parts, they are available...

Starter Contacts for 2003-2007

If this helps, I recently rebuilt the starter on my 2008 4Runner with:

2822650070 - contacts
2822650080 - contacts
2823554380 - plunger

and everything fit in just fine, so I think there is truth to what FrankTorres said.

A Denso reman starter is $91 on Rock Auto (plus core charge). Nothing wrong with rebuilding one, but with such a low cost for a OEM remain I went the reman route when mine stopped working.
