2004 vs 2005 LC (1 Viewer)

Sorry for the somewhat duplicate post but i need some assistance fairly quickly. i am pulling the trigger on one of the two LC's by end of day tomorrow. Here is the scenario:

2004 - CPO, Loaded, 24k miles - $45,500

2005 - Non-CPO, Loaded, 9k miles - $48,500 (he came down from 54,995)

I like the 2004 because it has the pkg B that includes the contrasting fender flares. Other than that, there is no difference. I have not driven the 2005 (cant imagine it being bad)....

Not sure how to decide......i have 46,500 in cash to purchase but could come up with the addtl 3k if needed.....

Also, he isnt budging on the 2005 price so if thats too high, let me know and ill go for the 2004...thanks.

I can't imagine buying a used vehicle without driving it first, so I wouldn't personally consider the 2005 until taking it for a test drive.

It seems to me that if $48k is considered high for the 2005 with 9k miles, $45 is way high for the 2004, even with CPO.

$3K difference only, definitely go with 05 if in good shape.
I would think they depreciate way more than 3K per year at that level...
even the 05 is not a particularly low price. 04 overpriced IMO.

What's the term for the certified warranty, 3 yr/100K mi? Figure tax and licensing will run around $4K. Based on what I found shopping for LC's in LA, most dealers and even private party were asking $40K for a '03 w/ 60K mi, more if certified. So I think the $45.5K isn't out of line.

OTOH, KBB says trade-in on a '04 w/ 24K mi w/ navigation & f/r side air bags is $40.5K for a vehicle in excellent condition w/ full service records. Add $2K for the certification and that's $42.5K. Figure a dealer profit of $1-1.5K and that's $43.5-44K. I think they can go lower. Dealers are more willing to deal on the last weekend of the month to meet their quotas and/or boost their commissions, so they might refuse to lower it. If you're willing to wait a few weeks until late Feb and the vehicle is still there (remember, gas prices always rise in the spring, so fewer SUV customers), you'll have more bargaining power and might save $1.5-2K, which could be spent on mods.

Certified warrany bumps up the powertrain to 7yr/100k and also includes roadside assistance for 7yr/100k. Taxes and fees only amount to approx $1500. i was working this deal at the end of january and the movement i got, occurred then. I saw you pulled up trade in for KBB.....i pulled up retail for the 2004 at nadaguides.com and they are showing trade in at 43,725 and retail for 48,675. Spllit right down the middle that comes to $46,200 and i am at $45,500. Seems like a pretty fair deal. I may offer $45,250 or $45,000 even and leave it at that. The one thing that i keep forgetting is that he probably has some of the profit tied up in my trade (he is giving me 27,251 for my 2005 Acura TL with 25k miles, non nav AT)..Trade in shows around 24k for that car....hmmmmmmm.

Provided the trade in stays the same definately the 05. I would get him to give you a shorter extended warranty on the 05. and get that one. I just bought my loaded 04 for $37,000. Granted I got no warranty and it was 60,000 miles but it was rock solid and easy to justify a 6 or 7 thousand dollar savings.

Hows that for irony...I hate being tooled around like that but my offer stands. Looks like a 2004 is in my future - i dont think that will be a bad thing.

Understand but despite him being a fool for overpaying on his stock, his price is his price....you know you just have a feeling....? I feel better about the 2004 as well as the folks im getting it from. 45,495 plus 995 for the platinum toyota warranty (7yr/100k) no deductible.

I would take the 04 with the CPO, you have bumper to bumper coverage for another 76K miles and 5 years. Enjoy.
