I am trying to decide between a 2004 with 133,000 miles for $16000 or a 2006 with 83000 miles for $24000.i don't mind spending more money for the 06.The 06 is only 20 miles away and the 04 is 90 miles away.i am going to look at the 06 one day this week.both have decent service records( checked on lexus.com).Is the extra 8 grand worth it for the 06, more horse power nicer interior?
I know some of you are sick of threads like this, but your opinions are the reason for forums.I have been on land rover,fj cruiser forums and we all try to help each other as best as possible.

If you can afford it, I would go 06' personally. If you're considering this a purchase that you will keep for the long haul, its a better investment to get the newest, lowest mile one you can afford.

I bought an 06' with 118k over an 05 with 130k miles even though it was ~$3k more. I personally think the 06' and 07' are the best years (most up to date) and I plan on keeping it till it dies and can not be resuscitated.

Assuming there isn't a color preference of one over the other, the other big piece would be if the timing belt has been done. Also, do they both have the nav with integrated climate controls. If You think you will leave it stock for a while go with the 06, if you have a list of mods you want to do, save the money and go with the 04. Good luck

Maintenance it just one part, the TB/WP is a big plus if it's been done. But you are in North East, so rust is a big issue. I would go with the least rust of the two. Bodywork down the line is much more $$$$$ than PM, changing the WP/TB, etc.

:meh: just me, but I don't value low miles on a truck that runs for freaking ever. 8 grand buys a lot of gas, maintenance, and upgrades. The '06 still has a lot of depreciation left. I have an '04 that just turned 200K. Drives fantastic. Couldn't imagine what an extra eight grand could improve on, other than bragging rights? Again, just my opinion, and my lowest mileage car has 155K. It's been a very cost-effective and trouble-free strategy...

For two very similar/identical trucks, what kind of pricing difference would you expect for something like 210k vs 140k ?

I think you should ask @Josh N what his thoughts are

I'd go for the '04 and put the money saved into building it up. There's negligible differences between the two models aside from the VVTi in the '06, which is also not much of a selling point (research this forum). Mileage isn't that far different considering these rigs go for 300k+ miles easily. '04 may have had the timing belt and water pump done already at that mileage if the PO was diligent. The '06 would be coming up on it soon and that would be more money out to baseline. Given the information you've provided, my opinion is the '04.

I would try and get the 06 if its really clean. If the 90k was done early great. If not, its just more you can shoot em down with. Btw its not cheap if you aren't doing it yourself.

Btw the 06-07 has LED tail lights. Worth 8k to me. LOL

Replaced the incandescents all around in my '04 with LEDs from SBL for less than $175. Highly recommended.

I love and use the extra power of the VVTi on the open road
I have an '06 that I bought with similar miles and similar price. WP/TB, air pump, and a number of other items had been replaced at the 90k service just before I bought it at a shop I know and trust, which is priceless. Like LCPhil said the extra power is noticeable and nice on the highway. Some would argue otherwise. Drive them both and see what you think. At two years older the 04 has 50k more miles. These trucks are bomber but parts do wear. For me that is about 5 years of road life and I would consider the lower miles seriously. Cv's, steering racks, and other items can eat up that 8k pretty quick. Good luck and in the end you are gonna love what ever you get every time you drive it.

06/07. The power is worth it

There is a 06 LX470 in the Seattle Craigslist with 30k miles. They are asking 30k....offer them $25

What is the condition of leather, rust, etc.? Was one owned by grandma and the other taken out to the trails? It is impossible to answer this type of question with a year and price as the only two variables given. If all is equal I would save the $8K, but you never know; the '06 seller may came down a lot more than the '04 owner who is holding firm, making the '06 a better buy.
