I understand some folks have swapped out the archaic tape deck for more modern hardware - any pics?

If you have the standard NAV screen, I don't think you'll find too many who have done it. It's not a simple swap because all of your climate and HVAC controls are integrated in the NAV screen.

There was a fund started a long time ago to raise money to pay someone to figure it out.... but I believe the project became too arduous and time consuming to complete.

I think someone posted somewhere that a shop was able to get it done... but it was stupid amounts of $$.

I understand the nav stays static. I'm referring to the tape deck underneath. Is that interchangeable?

The guy that did what you're talking about posted it in the thread where everybody was contributing to a swap solution, the one that never came to fruition. I forget the guys name that put a single din in place of the tape deck, leaving the NAV unit in place, but if you find that thread you'll find the pics. Best of luck!

I haven't owned a tape since 1998 and don't want to spend 2015 looking at a tape deck. My current plan is to mount a Ham face plate over the tape deck. I'm currently searching for examples of this being done cleanly. If anyone has done this please post up.

WTF was Toyota thinking?

Any updates on replacing the tape deck?

I had a screen for a Yaesu FTM-400R/DE mounted to hide the tape deck. Gary at Mudrac came up with the solution.
