so, what I have ended up doing is moving cassette deck to behind the passenger side rear quarter panel - putting a new single DIN head unit in it's place. JL audio speakers all around with a JL audio 6 channel amp. All wired from the head unit - but, I had to leave the original amp and cassette deck wired to the GPS or I lost climate control. It's insane
Do you have a picture of your setup you can share?

you want how it looks in the dash? or all the "behind the scenes" stuff. It'll take me a bit to get photos of that. And, if this GROM unit pans out, I will be moving the cassette deck back to the factory location to utilize the factory radio again(with the addition of the GROM) stuff.

GROM VLine - Google apps/Android&iPhone integration

actually, in that thread, on page 2 - you can see what single din unit i put in cassette deck's place. That is a very shallow mounting depth there so I had to go with that Marine unit....its a "media" player - no optical drive at all but, i just stream from phone.

it is quite ugly so I hope the GROM unit comes to market and works well very soon!

I missed that photo on that thread. That's what I wanted to see. Wished it fit better. I hope that Grom works out. Thanks much.

Cut the speaker wires on the output side of the factory amp. Ran the outputs from the factory amp into the high level inputs of the JL amp using some of these XD-CLRAIC2-SW and a set of RCAs. Then ran nine conductor speaker wire from the JL amp outputs back to the speaker inputs near the factory amp.

There isn't any noise when the volume is turned all the way down like others have experienced, which I am contributing to the differential balanced input section of the amp. I pulled the factory subwoofer and installed the amp in that location.
Hey I've got a 2004 TLC w/Nav and plan to do the exact same upgrade you've described. Two questions:
1. Curious about how you mounted the aftermarket amp where the factory subwoofer is located. I'm seeking good location for the 2 amps I'm installing (4-channel and mono). Where the factory sub is installed seems like prime real estate, but not sure how I'd mount in that space.
2. Also wondering if you just spliced into the factory subwoofer speaker wires for the amp inputs at the point where they plug into the factory sub at that location, or did you split off of the door speaker wires that you brought to you to the other amp?

Any other tips you have for the specific job would be very welcome!
