I'm not much of a poster here but read and search almost daily. I have found other threads on dash squeaks (not rattles) but none seem to have a solution.

I've had my cruiser for almost 4 years and has been silent until this winter. A few weeks ago a squeak in the middle of the dash, sounds like at the base of the windshield, came up. To me the sound is like two Styrofoam cups rubbing in there on bumpy roads, drive you crazy! Ya I know, turn up the radio, but once you hear it you can't not notice it.

I took out the center stack; nav, radio, side vents, and can't see anywhere it'd be rubbing.

It would be greatly appreciated if anyone has found a cure for this annoying squeak.

Thanks in advance.

I had a weird squeak like that a while back and had the hardest time tracing the sound. It was going nuts trying to find the source.

It turned out it was my sliders - one of them was touching the body where it was not supposed to.

Try to have someone on the outside listen - it may not be internal.

It's your windshield I believe. I have the same problem, especially when it's cold outside. You need to get a small microfiber towel or something and jam it in there between the windshield and dashboard. It's a quick easy fix though not permanent.

Thank you both.
I have no sliders but have quickly checked around the firewall in the engine compartment. I did find some of the nuts on the cowl were lose but unfortunately that didn't help the noise.
I will try the towel approach tomorrow.

I had the same issue with my windshield. Foam will fix it...kind of a jerry-rigged solution, but it works. The problem is a poor windshield install, in my case... the idiots used screws to put it in, when I specifically requested rivots. Aftermarket windshield... oops

Reviving an old thread.

Ive got a 99 TLC and ive got 2 separate rattles in front of driver and in front of passenger coming front the upper dash just below windshield. From what ive read above it would make sense that its a crappy windshield install with an aftermarket windshield. Im replacing my windshield as soon as my parts arrive...Ive ordered new cowl vents, windshield side moldings and replacing both L and R drip moldings. Do you think this will take care of my awful upper dash rattles?

In my case with three new windshields over the years, may or may not solve the issue.

The foam is the best option though, especially when a new windshield is installed.

I have the same squeaks but still on the factory windshield. 126K and counting.
