What fluid for the mid year 2002 with the A343F?

Thank you. Planning on a pan drop and full fluid exchange.

I use Valvoline Maxlife ATF. It calls for Dextron III equivalents.

I’ve been doing the 4qt. fluid exchange over time on our 01 LX with Valvoline Maxlife synthetic ATF. Currently at 309K and still running strong.

For those of you doing a cooler like flush vs a diluted flush, I math’d it:

COOLER LINE
Pro: flushes >95% of the ATF in one go
Con: requires understanding of hose routing, risk of running dry, messy.
Cost: ~$75-$100 (12 qt + drain gasket)

DILUTE
Pro: done entirely at transmission (no messing with hoses), can be done over time
Con: more waste
Cost: $300-$400 for ~91% flush (6 cycles)

The early A343F trucks have a trans dipstick so they are much easier to fill and require nothing more than a funnel.

If you want to keep your ATF “continually fresh” and don’t mind spending a little more, just buy your ATF by the pail and flush 3 qts at every oil change or two.

Anecdotal comment:
When I was running my 2000 cruiser, I changed from the original mineral ATF to a synthetic Dexron III equivalent, and got a noticeable better performance in that the changes were much smoother.
