HELLO EVERYONE i own a 2001 toyota sequoia its got 150k miles...about a month ago the check engine light came on so i took it by the nearest autozone. they cheked it and the error code said that its the shift solenoid.a few weeks later i dropped the pan under neath the transmission and noticed some finds(metal shavings)and a couple of pieces of metal, about 1/2 inch in length.so refilled with new trans fluid and put her back together.she ran good for about 2 months untill last night as i was driving home on the freeway she all a sudden felt like she went into neutral...so i got off the highway and parked it.i could not put her in drive or reverese .everytime i would do it i could here a grinding sound..so i had her towed home.i called toyota and explained to them what had happened and they told me i would need a new trans..cost 3-4 k dollars...can there be somthing i can do before i take it ti toyota and spnd all this money thanks ben.

Def. Sounds like a transmission. I would personally find a tranny from a wrecked sequoia that has low miles on it, and pick up the transmission, and pay another shop to do the replacement, It would save you ALOT of money. Just My $.02

before you do anything, change the fluid and filter one more time and see what happens, it can't hurt. it could be a lot of things although the metal shavings ain't good, could be a torgue convertor or a plugged filter.
