I am looking at a second Land Cruiser to my household. I am currently looking at a 2001 TLC that has the optional Navigation System. This car is for my daughter and I want to be able to put in a new stereo with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, backup camera, etc.

I am a total stereo novice and all of the detailed threads that I have read here have just gotten me more confused.

I basically just want to know if I can take out the optional Navigation System that comes with the car and replace it with my own and still have everything still work properly (climate controls, etc.)?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I went through the similar process looking for a car for my son. We specifically narrowed our search to a non-nav 100 series, because he wouldn't have been happy without some modern technology in the dash.

It has been done (at least once) but it is not a simple process:
Pre 03 Factory NAV to Double Din, Climate Knobs Conversion?

but if that's your plan, you might be better off finding one without the factory navigation system.

Thanks for the reply. That was what I was scared of.

I assume that it is the same with 2003+ models as well?

From all my research, yes. Its pretty much impossible to replace the factory nav in a TLC or LX470 (100's). If she has to have apple carplay, you'll have to find a non-nav truck. If she's okay with bluetooth only, you can buy a thing that plugs into the back of the nav unit and allows bluetooth. It will show up under the "CD" input on the nav screen, but will instead play whatever she has on her phone. If she has to have a back-up camera, you'll have to get one that had it factory installed (only an option on 2005's and above I believe).

Good luck!
