Heater T's failed on our rig. Wife drove it till it died. What donor blocks and years are compatible for a 2001 LX470? We are the original owners so I know what we got.

I'm assuming i can reuse the current wiring harness.

Will any engine block 2uzfe from a 1st gen tundra / sequoia / land cruiser work? I know that i once the engine is acquired, lots of rubber hoses, belts, timing, etc...should be replaced. But, I am curious what years and vehicle blocks would work.

Questions:
1. what makes and models and years are a direct replacement for a 2001 LX470?
2. what makes and models and years are not a direct replacement but i can use parts from our current rig?

Thanks,
-S

you should be able to use any engine from 1998-2005. The Tundra / Sequoia motor will work as well, but there are beliefs held by some that the landcruiser engine is superior in build quality than the others.

Do not use a V V T- I engine which is most common from August 2004 and later, in all 4.7L builds, regardless of vehicle. Different electronics, ECU and harnesses

You need a non-VVTI engine. Those came in the 1998-2005 LC/LX 2UZ-FE, or the 2001-2004 Tundra/Sequoia 2UZ-FE.
The proper non-VVTI engine from a GX470 or V8 4runner would work too, but not 100% sure on the years on those.

If you go with a non-LC/LX engine, you'll need to swap upper/lower oil pans, wiring harness, and exhaust manifolds. All pretty easy. If you go with a 2003 or later engine, you'll need to swap your current throttle body over - also easy.

I put a 2003ish Sequoia engine into my 2005 LX470 in the last couple months. @FamilyCamper also recently put in a new engine in. We both have threads about it - happy to answer any questions!

I think all info is covered about what you need but yes reach out about questions. I've currently got motor back in and working on getting lines attached and everything torqued down.

I've also replaced the engine in my 2001. If you can source a 00-01 it would be easiest for you.

I got one out of a '98 and the wiring harnesses were different. Its not a HUGE deal but you'll be required to add a few hours changing out the whole wiring harness for one transmission plug.

Also the 99-00 had a older version throttle, and an 80 amp alternator instead of the 100amp.

But they'll work.

You can search my profile for my thread too - there's a lot that make sense to change while you are in there, like the steering rack.

Glad Im not the only one who had to change entire harness over lol. found the different plug before I put anything back in.

See? If you just start with a Non-LC engine, then you know that the new wiring harness isn't correct. 🤣
