I took my wife out to dinner and upon getting in car to leave, the LC wouldn't start. Would crank and crank but would not start. I wondered if it were the key and got a ride home to get the spare key. Used the fob to unlock the doors and tried to start. Cranked and cranked but never started.

I noticed the little theft deterrent light was on and off while I was cranking so I locked and unlocked the doors several times until the light went off and stayed off and it started right up. I guess the theft deterrent system was still working when I was starting the car initially.

Any ideas why it would not have turned off with unlocking the doors and inserting the key?

Thanks

Assuming you have air, spark and fuel being fed to the engine, could be an immobilizer issue

Also check the efi fuse.

I had this exact issue with my '01 LX470. Often, it is the EFI fuse block going bad. There is a known issue with it and Toyota has made a part to fix it. I'd have to dig up my old research on it. A little searching should pull up lots of information on it.

Thank you. It has done it once before but I didn't notice the flashing alarm icon that time.

I didn't kick the car this morning and when I got back in it the little icon was flashing and now unable to start it.

I don't know what EFI fuse is, but will research. Thanks again.

That fix looks way more technical than my abilities would allow. I will see if changing to a new fuse will fix issue.
