Folks, have spent several years building an FJ40, and an FZJ80. Broke my heart, but lost the 80 in a fire about a month ago. Not sure what I want for my next project, but shopping the 100 series.

Currently a 2000 and 2006 are both on CL, each with about the same mileage 75,000. Yet the 2006 is twice the value of the 2000 with nearly identical mileage. Looked through Slee's buyers guide, but still cannot see why one is twice the value. Other than vvti isn't it essentially the same vehicle ?

Upgraded headlights to HIDs, upgraded dash console which does look much better, upgraded taillights, and most importantly 5 speed transmission vs. 4 speed.
Other more knowledgeable folks will shine more light on it also.

Plus curtain airbags, navi, and all the stuff on Slee's site. Worth it? :meh: depends... keep in mind the depreciation curve from a brand new $65,000 vehicle as well. 2000 can be had for $10K depending, an '06 at twice that might not be a bad deal. The same '00 at $18k and '06 at $36k is a sucky deal on both...

I think the a 2000 at half the price of a 2006, with same mileage, is a better value.

Less inital price, less taxes, less insurance, but still a major difference over a FZJ80

Plus, if yoare going to wheel with it, youll find the R & C lockers in the '00 more usefull than traction control on '06.

2000 doesn't have rear locker just the 98-99 cruisers.
I would go for the 2000 over the 06 if it were my money. But since I don't know your financial situation and what you plan to do with it, hard to tell.

Wasn't 2000 the first year for ATRAC?

Value is subjective. The 2000 costs twice what the 2006 does.

I don't think the features of the 2006 make it worth double a 2000, especially when the 2000 only has 75K.

In fact, the 2000 with 75K probably isn't nearly as good a value as a 2000 with 120K, for example, if the 75K truck has a lot of deferred PM that you'll have to deal with as the new owner.

The 2000 is definitely the most bang for buck but if your plans are to tow or run 35's, I'd opt for the 2006 for the extra gearing and power. And I think the 5-sp gearing and engine is a major advantage over an 80 series and so maybe you won't miss your 80 as much =)

That 2000 you are looking at might need an immediate T-belt service based on age, if it hasn't been done already.

KIRUXA, the 2006 headlamps are not HID.

Ummm....have buddy with a 2000 and lockers.... Its fairly built, perhaps he added them. Lockes would be my primary decision for '00 vs '06, but since they both have ATRAC, toss a coin. With Toyota, I don't use milage as primary or secondary priority in a purchase, but thats just me. I wouldn't hesitate on double the miles on the '00.

i think the LC in 06 and 07 came with AHC(same as the LX470) so that may factor in for you also; meaning you will have to remove. not positive on that.

He definitely added the lockers aftermarket.

I believe AHC was an option in '06/07 that many LCs ended up with.

Having owned a '00 and now an '04, having the 5sp is pretty nice, even with out VVTi.

As others have said, it all depends on your intended use.

No 100 series ever came with HIDs fyi.

Not sure if they're technically classified as HIDs but I gotta tell you my 99 LX (100 series) has a much higher intensity than the factory toyota landcruiser lights.

My GF just went through the same consideration but was looking at cruisers over 100K. She chose the 06. Nicer paint, clean interior, no rust, no worries on hoses and other things to replace due to age (not mileage). Seems like a lot of guys have had to do a lot of pm upfront on the older 100s (hoses, sensors, etc.). I know a lot of it is OCD but for her an extra few years on these parts was worth it. She wants it to look nice and probably wont wheel it much. If i had to buy it for my uses most of her criteria wouldn't be as important. I bought my 80 and everything was amazingly clean. Ive beat on it but still want it too look nice. Her 2006 I would be afraid to give it pinstripping....

I've owned a 2000, 2004, and 2007 LC and now own a 2001 LX. The 2000 is good, the 04 better, and the 06 best, in my opinion. However, the most bang for the buck is the 2003-2005 LCs. 238hp nonVVTi but with the 5-speed. The trans makes up the most of the difference between a 2000 and a 2006. VVTi is just the icing on the cake. Only reason I have a 2001 now instead of an 03 is because I got a good deal on it - too good to pass up.
