I am hearing this story second hand from my sister who is not too tech savvy so I am not sure I can provide all necessary details, however my sisters land cruiser is a 2000, same as mine, with about 175k miles.

Driving home a few days ago all of a sudden the truck shuts off when stopped and will not idle under 1000 RPM's. Unless the truck was kept moving at speed, it would simply buck and shut off in the middle of the road. No lights came on and the truck would shift and drive normally if kept at speed. Unfortunately I was not there to witness this and I wish I had more information.

My sister has the truck at a shop that I am not sure about and I am wondering if you guys could help to diagnose so they are not told something absurd by the questionable shop as they are considering getting rid of the truck if the repair is too expensive (I know for a fact the truck has a ton of life left in it as it was maintained very well and drives beautifully, better than mine actually).

Again I apologize for lack of information but hopefully these symptoms will ring a bell to someone.

Thanks,

Mike

Stab in the dark but check that the air hose running from the air filter housing to the throttle body doesn't have a tear in it. Sounds like when that happened on my 80-series. Bucked and coughed unless run at higher RPMs. Still ran badly even at speed. New hose and all was back to normal.

Regardless, get it to a mechanic than knows the 100-series. It's most likely nothing that is the demise of the truck.

Tell her to "Keep the Cruiser Faith !!"
