Hello everyone, new here. I am looking at purchasing a 2000 Lexus LX470. I have read the FAQs and Starter posts on this site. Any other caveats to look for with this model? It has ~150,000 miles, regularly maintained, replaced timeing belt about 20k ago, one owner and it looks like it has never been off road. The price is good ($10k), so I am ready to pull the trigger, just looking for any other things to beware of. Any input is appreciated. I will post some pics if I buy the vehicle. Thanks!

Nice. Welcome to MUD. Read the FAQ here and on Slee's website and you should be good. Make sure to test the AHC suspension. I love my 01 LX

Take the VIN number to your friendly local Lexus dealer & have a service writer print out the truck's service records.

You can do this yourself on the Lexus website, but I think it's important to note that the website shows which services were done, while the dealer's printout will show not only the services that were done, but also which services were declined by the original owner.

Prepare for starter failure (as noted) and ignition rod thing - both suck but at least the starter gives you fair warning. Probably replace T hoses as preventive and very inexpensive to do.

FWIW in my shopping I found the Lexus dealers would not give me the service records directly so doing it on the Lexus website is probably the way to go.

I would watch out for the integrated climate controls on the touchscreen. You won't be able to change out the head unit with the climate controls tied into the touchscreen.

Hello,
Both are decidedly good ideas. I do want to point out that any maintenance preformed by a Toyota dealership on the LX under consideration would not be accessible by Lexus. Of course, going to Toyota as well will cover both bases.
Cheers,
Jack

I don't think this MY had the touchscreen, didn't come out until 2003 MY. Mine doesn't it has the Nakamichi radio.

I would also check the rear heat. Comes out of the middle console on the floor. Mine is missing the relay so no floor heat for second row. Relay is inexpensive but a PITA to install.
Had the same problem with the fog lights not getting any power, missing relay. Same as above cheap but PITA to install.

Thanks for all of the input. This Lexus sold the day I went to pick it up. I have found a 2002 one owner with all service records that I am considering now. It has 178k miles on it. Just trying to get comfortable w that mileage. I have never seen a car so well maintained and documented. Just seems like a lot of miles...

That's not too many miles for a LC, especially if it's been maintained. If you are getting a good price, I'd buy with confidence.

My 98 LC 100 is at close to 276k and increasing at 500 or so miles a week. Still running strong.

FYI....My 2000 LX has 245k miles. I have done nothing to it other than replace one CV axle and maybe O2 sensors. It has been flawless.

Here's another consideration when choosing between Toyota and Lexus. When new, they both are expensive, but the Lexus is out of reach for a lot of people. They are so out of reach, the people who buy them, most likely won't use them the way they can be used. The reasons we all like these platforms. A 10-11 year old Lexus with any kind of mileage, will most likely be old rich person mileage. Especially one owner. Even two or three owners. A bone stock one, you can almost guarantee all it did was shuffle around kids/grandkids. I got my 2001, and it had everything done minus the rear bumper. Other than some wear on the front seats...perfect condition. Just my two cents, they both will hold up great over the years, but the Lexus' upgraded interior and out of reach price might make them stand up a little better.
