The hood support cylinders have gone bad on my 2000 lx 470. i have a new set from the dealership and i can't get the old ones off. my question is do i need to replace the ball part of the joint also or can i just pry the old cylinder off.

The new supports should come with hardware. It is best to swap them out.

I recently replaced mine, the ones I bought didn't come with the hardware that mounts to the hood. I ended up taking the old ones off( ball and socket joint)at the hood attachment point, and taking a saw to the socket part to get the ball out, reattached the original ball part of the joint to the hood and installed the new struts. More work than I bargained for but I didn't know any better when I bought the replacements.
