Hello all in the house,

My land cruiser 2000 year 2uz-fe engine sounds like a diesel engine, just like a knocking sound. If I press on the throttle and it sound reduces as the engine speed increase.

Anyone has idea on how to solve this problem.

Appreciate all response.

Well that escalated quickly...

Does the sound reduce or go away as it warms up?

Just as an extra measure, inspect your catalytic converters to see if one has failed and contains a broken element. This can sound a lot like a diesel engine. Without hearing your truck, I can't tell, but I had a cat fail last year and produce what I considered a diesel like sound. Knocking on each cat with a dead blow hammer revealed that the passenger side had failed and was producing a rattle internally. It made my truck sound like an 80's diesel Benz.

New to you truck or developed the sound? Check the valve Gap.

Sorry all, i suppose to have given the genesis of the sound.

This sound started after my mechanic replaced the burnt head gasket. Engine runs fine but the sound was like that of a diesel.

He also changed some small cup like components in the cylinder head when I complained of the sound and problem is still there.

The diesel sound is there whether engine is cold or worm.

It sounds like your mechanic is taking the head off on his expenses to see what he did.

That's where I was headed, I forget the proper term for the lifter buckets, small cup components. Checking the valve Gap will tell you if the lifter bucket is in spec. Maybe he didn't number them when replacing the gasket and one/sinc are out of spec now. The gap needs to be measured to be able to deduce the appropriate size of the new bucket. Pulling the valve cover gasket and measuring is pretty easy, I'd start there.
