Im new to the site. I have read some posts regarding the navigation system in the 2000-2002 LX/LC and how it is near impossible to upgrade, but still need some clarity/help before purchasing. Any help would be appreciated. I found two options both are 2001

1. LX470 White/tan 2 owner. 99k miles. (has not had water pump or belt replaced). HAS Navigation
or
2. LX470 Black/tan 2 owner. 135k miles (timing belt replaced at 96k). NO Navigation.

option 1 is $2k more.

so would you guys go with lower milage with nav. or just a few more miles with no navigation. both have the ML sound system. Also is it difficult to change out the non nav ML system with a new head unit.

thank you.

Non nav LX470s are somewhat rare, and usually more desired. Combined with the fact it has had the timing belt replaced and is two grand cheaper makes it the easy choice out of the two. Mileage on a Land Cruiser is mostly irrelevant. Any cruiser that's taken care of will easily make it to at least a few hundred thousand miles.

I am converting my navigation to a non-nav tonight. Looks like it will run me about $200. I plan on selling the navigation unit to cover the cost of the upgrade. On top of that the new head unit and all 4 speakers were $315. It took me about 3.5hrs tonight to rewire it. Ill install the stereo system tomorrow or Friday. You can work around the navigation issue. Look for the one that you feel has been taken care of and upgrade the head unit on either when ready.

you don't want an early ujz-100 with nav. its primitive. the HVAC runs through it, so its hard to delete. Go with the second one.

Like to follow your progress in converting Nav to non-Nav. I have a 2002 with Nav and have
wondered what it would entail to convert.

Do a detailed carfax and service history check with low mileage like that. LC and LX's are very easy to roll back odometers.

Hopefully the LX is still available this weekend, if it's in good condition with no rust, it would be gone the same day where I live if the price wasn't terrible.

This thread has the link to original thread. OP you can check out another mudder's LX conversion. It is not difficult but a fair amount of knowledge is necessary. You retain all factory functions with this conversion so don't let the navigation scare you. Find the best rig. Good luck.
Pre-03 nav delete how-to

non-navigation version for me. Factory navigation in any car has been a letdown for me (my iPad running Google maps is vastly superior). Plus, in the early models, AC/Stereo/Nav are integrated into one unit. That's a no-go for me. As stated above, mileage is largely irrelevant (especially the difference between 99k and 135k). Since the TB/WP have already been done and it's 2k cheaper, seems an easy choice (if everything checks out with the truck of course). Take that nearly 4k savings (2k in price + 2k in 90k service) and get some KO2s, sliders and a bumper ;)

go no-nav, add aftermarket radio, profit.

I keep the screen cut off on my '04LX and use my phone for GPS and the AC set on 68 in the auto setting. I prefer the separate ac controls and pioneer radio w/ bluetooth, gps, backup camera I had in my previous 2000 LC

if you are handy with wires, don't let the Nav scare you away, guys have replaced with the non-nav controller. Otherwise, go non-nav.
