I am looking into the 3rd gen 4runners. I think some of the 2000-2002 4runners have some type of AWD system in them in addition to the 4wd. How would this work if I put a Aussie locker or another locker in the rear that was always “on”? Would the locker and the AWD system “fight” with each other and cause problems? How does the AWD system work to distribute the bower to different wheels?

This thread explains the multi-mode AWD and what years it was available:

Although the factory elocker was discontinued for the 3rd gen 4runner after '00, there is no problem adding an aftermarket locker of any kind (i.e. selectable like an ARB or elocker, an automatic ratcheting like an Aussie or Lockright, or even a spool - altough a spool isn't recommended for a DD). You can add lockers to the front and/or rear diffs regardless of whether or not it has the center diff lock (aka multi-mode or AWD) feature.
