200 with 3 different tail gate...

I spent 2 weeks in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi recently and noticed that the 200 there have 3 types of doors

1) Splits in middle (like mini clubman)

2) Opens on one side (like GX460 here)

3) Split up and down tail gate (like we have in the USA)


I am wondering what are the benefits of the other style doors? All the Saudi police had gorgeous Lime Green 200 LC with the split in the middle door.

Interestingly one of the things people hate about the US GX460 is that the rear door opens on the wrong side (not to the curb), whereas in Saudi all the GX (Prado) had USDM Land Cruiser style open up doors...

I've heard that some people prefer the barn doors for better access to cargo in the rear, i.e. No tailgate in your way.... I prefer the look of the barn doors but the function of the tailgate

We had a bard door Nissan Patrol when I was younger. Rear visibility was horrendous.

If a tail gate opens all the way up (like a Venza), wouldn't your cargo access be the same as a barn door?

With Toyota the barn doors are for the 70 or 200 series with side facing bench seats instead of the 3rd row, passengers are meant to access from the rear to get in/out whereas the 3rd row we have access is by folding 2nd row.

Another thing not 100% sure but read the mining industry specifically request barn doors for their vehicles.

I think a rear barndoor (with power windows in each side) and a pullout cargo tray (which acts like a tailgate) that could hold 500 lbs (think 4runner or like aftermarket ones sold for pickup truck beds) would be the best of all worlds.... But if I had to pick just one, I like the current USA tailgate version.

The barn doors I saw in Saudi were all solid. I even had the Fireman at the Haram Mosque open up their one and show me. No power windows.

Many reasons to buy a LC but one of my favorites is the split tailgate. I always find myself chilling on the back of the truck.

During days they would sit inside and idle the trucks

In medinah all the police trucks are the 70 series. After seeing same trucks idle for 48 hours in one spot I asked the cop and he says yup they idle for ever

Different smokes for different folks, but if you're looking for the best ass end, I prefer the '80 series with ambulance doors.
