I just picked up a 2018 and am considering keeping the stock wheels. I will likely be going the BP-51 route for the lift and likely a wheel spacer to give a little more space and align the tires with the well, but not looking to poke out. First question...any recommendation about painting vs. powdercoating the stock wheels? Second question...any reason to not use the stock wheels with spacers?

Sell your wheels to me and pick up BBSes or 17" Rock Warriors...

So 100% powder coat vs Painting did I mention 100%......First time you take your LC in for tire rotation, they " WILL " get damaged. How do I know this? Well I took 5 full days to perfectly paint my stock wheels and they came out perfect, Then I went in for a tire rotation and they damaged 3 of the 4. Ended up just getting new wheels.

( Wheel Spacers ) I ran the spidertrax 1.25 and it gave it a very nice stance. Depending on who you ask, wheel spacers are a last resort, I had no issues though and Eric at Ed Martin Toyota fits out his builds using them too. When I got new wheels, I got a +25 offset so I no longer needed the spacers. Also for some reason, I could never get a perfect balance using my tires which are 295/65/18, when using the stock 18x8 wheel. Now I have a 18x9 wheel and the balancing is absolutely perfect. I also have the OME BP-51 lift and SPC upper control arms. Set at 2 inches and I love this set up but there are many lifts to choose from.

But make a wise decision about your wheels, if you plan to get new wheels, that cost of roughly $500.00 to powder coat them goes out the window i'd say, maybe get the wheels you really like on the correct offset now.

Here is a few pictures of mine on the OME BP-51, The wheels are Method NV305 with a offset of +25, They don't come out to far at all and gives the LC a nice stance

Good luck

I have 2018 with the stock wheels with 34's - Nitto Ridge Grappler LT285/70R18 E 127/124Q. Added BP-51 and BORA wheel spacers - 0.75" for Toyota LC. No issues, no rubbing. Perfectly balanced and aligned even after several off road trips.

I've contemplated getting some Rock Warriors but prefer to get some use out of the new rubber first. Another option I'm considering is getting some BBS Forged and putting the tires on those. The stock wheels got a little banged up on my last outing which is fine. Having black BBS Forged would definitely show more scars but I'm sure can be touched up.

Lots of options for you.

Great feedback. Thanks. I like the look of the setup you have. The tires sit just right in the wheel wells.

If you are referring to stock wheels from a current gen LC, mine will be for sale in about a week. Will have only ~500miles on them by time they come off.

Mine were painted heritage bronze. That lasted about a month until I went offroad. Since then they've only gotten worse. And now I have to replace one, and ill be honest I doubt it'll get painted, so ill be the clown with three bronze wheels and one silver.

If it is still holding air, just fill in the crack with some jb weld.😁

That’s too bad. I bet they looked good!

I’m a fan of paint because it can be easily touched up if that’s your thing. If you wheel much the wheels are gonna get scratched so why pay for PC? All of my wheels are gouged and scratched so PC makes no sense. Rattle can would be the route I would take.

It's funny you put this pic up, because I'm now debating if I pull my methods out and put them back on, or start shopping something else.
Those Methods are strong AF. I've put them through hell with out any problems. Even drove about 150' on the rim through the rocks on Poughkeepsie with one of them and it's still on the truck.

OME 2" lift, spidertrax 1.25 spacers. SPC UCA's and LCA's. Its sitting in the driveway for now....I destroyed a rim Saturday, so now I'm figuring out the next move. Stock '18 wheels just painted.
