285/50R20 or 275/55R20?

i am currently using 285/50R20 (same size as original toyota recommented size) but find it the ride too "stiff" for tarmac. i am thinking about changing to 275/55R20.. the additional +5 section should gives a better ride however, i am worried about the reduction from 285 to 275 on such a XXL truck will dramatically reduce the cornering traction.

give kindly give me your thoughts.. i am in a dilemma here. thank you very much for your kind feedback. cheers! - jennifer

Hi Jennifer.

There is someone on here who did not like the ride from the 20 inch wheels on their LX570. They ended up having the dealer install 18inch rims which help out on the ride. So far the person is happy.

Traction will be largely unaffected as, within reason, the limitation for cornering on SUVs is not as much the tires as it is on say a sports sedan.

That 275 tire you reference will only give .3" more sidewall as the aspect ratio (the 50 or 55 number) is a percentage of the width (285 and 275 in this example). For instance, a 255/55R20 tire actually has a smaller sidewall than the OEM 285/50R20.
