I am sure it is just basic, but I only have the #1 Cyln. firing. I did a static timing and it is ok. ( no timing light) 2-6 plugs pulled, wet with gas, I have ordered new points/cond. cap/rotor and wires, plugs. any ideas? Thanks

flooded

Sure you just didnt flood it?

If you actually have one sparking and five not sparking sounds like the distrib cap or rotor, how's it look? any carbon build up? wear? are the contacts eaten away
try scraping the contacts on the distrib and see if chunks of black stuff flake off if you just want to play until the new stuff comes in

by not firing you mean the spark plugs are not sparking when you checked them, correct?

put all the stuff you ordered on and fire it up

maybe have a can of ether on standby

I forgot to mention the odd back fire/cough through the carb.

sorry I also forgot to say I checked the firing order and it was also O.K. ....did that when I checked timing. I think (hope) I just have weak/bad/no spark than be cleared up from the dist. to the plugs by puting on new stuff that has not been in the elements for years. Thanks for all the input!

yep, that is another test I need to do, I have a fancy tester with a light that goes between the plug and the wire, my arms are too short to reach the key to turn it over and watch for spark at the same time... have to get my wife or son to lend a hand, the FJ is gonna have to wait a week or so as we are headin' for warmer weather south of Sarasota Florida ...not gonna miss -10 at this time of year. will keep reading Mud on the lap top though!
