I think Stan and I are the only ones with winches, but like you said, not the easiest place to recover people.

I don't think we'll be able to make a call until later this week though.

I don't have a winch, but my wife does :) We are wheeling her truck.

I'm looking forward to seeing her new bumper

Based on the forecast, it may not even be open. I think I am staying home for this one, sorry guys. No winch....yet.

If I get a winch, any experts out there willing to show me how to install it?

What are you attaching the winch to? Winch install is pretty straight forward

Skip usually posts on his website on Thursday if they are open or closed that weekend based on the weather forecast.

I don't have a winch either.

Teddy, as for a caravan we are leaving Simpsonville around 9:30. If you want to meet at the Target on the corner of Fairview & Harrison Bridge Rd at 9:30, we can shoot straight down Neely Ferry Rd. Let me know.

I'm out , only time my exhaust guy can get on the 80 , for a long time.

Metal Tech tube bumper. Ordered the goods today with Engo 10000S winch and sliders. Mark gave me a price I couldn't refuse, and I could blame it on an early bday present.

Very cool, congrats!!. The install is not hard at all. Make sure that you clean out all the capture nuts in the frame with a tap before doing the install. I use anti seize on the bolts as well. Mounting the winch and wiring it is pretty straight forward. If you want to come down here I can give you a hand. When all installed you will be capable of self recovery. My father told me this when I was a kid..............

"If you go out in the woods without a means of self recovery, you deserve to spend the night"

Boys, it's not looking good for the weather. Predicting a major snow event Wednesday night. I have a feeling Gulches will be closed, or open for a slop fest. I'm not really interested in breaking stuff in the mud all day.

Thoughts?

Yeah, looks like the weather is going to suck... Well, we're having a HAMOM in a couple weeks if you need to rebuild your knuckles! :-) As for this weekend, I'm going to go ahead and back out. @Teddy I'll see you at GSMTR! :flipoff2:

I'll see you then. And my front end was rebuilt about 20000 miles ago. Hopefully I have a little more time. I'm pretty bummed about this weekend, but I don't really want to break anything before GSMTR. I just finished fixing everything from Golden Mountain!

Thanks Stan, will keep that in mind, much appreciated. I may try it myself, screw it up, and call you....

That is a good plan, the more you do yourself the better off you will be when something goes wrong on the trail.

Yep, I agree. It'll be too sloppy if open at all. Oh well, next time.
I"m sure we'll connect at one of these meets.

Bummer, but I have been there in the Mud and it is a big zero on the fun scale.

With Gulches being a high probability washout this weekend, would Brown Mountain be a potential other choice? I have never been there, so no idea what it looks like.

I've never been, but a quick search shows the only trails open to full size trucks are trail 8 and part of trail 1. Trail 8 is only 0.6 miles long, and trail 1 is 5.5 miles total. Not sure how much of it "part" is considered. Also, both of these are rated as easy. Personally, I'm not driving 200 miles round trip to ride maybe 4 miles of easy trails.
