2.28 or 4.7 Toybox?

Just seems like youre building so many more possible points of error into the system. Modify t-case (adapters), modify cross member, modify drivelines, what else?
I'm sure that you could definitely make it into a bombproof system, but I'd want a KISS system.
Your point on having a FAR larger midrange is definitely a valid point.
First rig I ever drove was a Unimog, and I'm always wishing for the HUGE low-end gears (ie: this toybox).

Marlins stuff is pretty simple, and failure's with the stuff he has designed are far and few between. It's just a few more gears and bearings.

Not like dropping in a late model high horsepower American V8 into a tractor.

True enough bro!
True enough!:D

My advice, save up and get the 4.7 ToyBox.

It is absolutely the best. You give up NOTHING (except a few bucks which you'll recover or spend in a few months anyway).

The 4.7 ToyBox is perfect with a 2.28 case. x1, x2.28, x4.7, x10.7

With the 2.28 you only gain one extra range x1, x2.28, x5.2

I use the 173:1 on most every trip. Maybe not for long but it makes wheeling MUCH more fun. It takes a while to "learn" how to "crawl" but when you experience the results it's really quite amazing. A tire that is practically stopped or barely moving doesn't loose traction. It's weird to see but stepping on the brake to stop the wheels, loading up the suspension, and then idle up where any throttle or "bump" would just cause a loss of traction.

Besides the increased capability, the added control saves body damage and breakage. You stay on line, or change line wirh ease. In a big wagon it makes manuevering in tight places fun.

Marlin's ToyBox is definitely the best mod I ever made, better than SOA, better than FF & RR air lockers, better than anything....

Good luck with whatever you decide.
