Just installed techstream v18 with a tactrix openport 2.0
Booted it up with the obd2 to m-obd DLC1 adapter I bought off ebay
Launched techstream Japan and scanned the car with correct make and model. Super weird as I’m scanning the car the airbag light starts flashing as if the reader is “pulling data” from the diagnostic connector in the engine bay. Techstream comes up with nothing but it’s clear that signals are being received from the car, but nothing is coming back to the reader. Did the connector self test and it’s turning up nothing. Any ideas? This is on my jdm spec 96 prado 1kzte

When I connected up techstream via one of those USB to OBD2 adapters (which was a jolly pain in the butt to setup), it was basically useless. Didn't allow me to do anything special other than read codes. And it was very clunky to get it to do that. I don't even think there were any tests or reset type things I could do. Just view basic data. My Toyota phone app + Bluetooth dongle mentioned in the other thread was more comprehensive and easier to use.

Fwiw, I used an eBay adapter kit. I had to source a copy of tech stream which could only run on windows xp. So had to then install a copy of windows xp on a virtual machine on my Windows 10 laptop then install tech stream in the VM and run it from that. It all worked and connected to my car fine but the options within techstream itself was rediculously limited. Very disappointing. Will be interesting to see if you get much further, especially connecting to the M-OBD port.

Yours is a 1996 and it has an OBDII port? Mine is a 1996 and it only has the diagnostic port in the engine bay.

Yeah it only has the Toyota DLC1 port in the engine bay same as you. Didn’t mean to confuse you. My tactrix openport has obd2 but I haven an adapter to allow me to connect it to the engine bay diagnostic port

Do you have a link to the particular adapter you’re using? I’d like to experiment with it.

Yeah I think so. I'm pressure there will be an IOS alternative. You might just have to someone digging around and testing
So I bit the bullet and bought a cheap android and picked me up an ELM327 from a guy locally for $10. Guy told me he used it on his ford focus which has a switch for CAN operation. Best guess HI for CAN HI and MED for CAN MED (CAN LO? Possibly). Anyways I got a usb-C adapter since it isn’t Bluetooth obviously. How should I proceed with setting this thing up with ELMscan?

Why not? You've come this far!

All my use has been with a 2000 model 1KZ-TE/ECU via OBD2 port so there might be some slight differences in communication. It sounds like you're all over it though.

I've noticed ELMScan Toyota has now been removed from Google Play store. I think I know why but I won't announce it here in case I'm wrong. I have the APK file I can send you and you can try and install it manually if you like? I have contacted the owner of the app in the past who was helpful with a query I had so it is a legit app. I just think that due to the country he is from, Google Play might have banned all apps from that particular country for "political reasons" if you get my drift....

Nup, torque is rubbish compared to ELMscan. Well in my experience anyways. I bought the Pro version and it's limited to just viewing and deleting codes. Nothing else useful.

I found this on Ebay. I assume this is the correct connector for the diagnostic port?

22 Pin OBD OBD1 to 16 Pin OBD2 Connector Adapter Cable for Toyota Lexus DLC B145 | eBay - https://www.ebay.com/itm/284966887121?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=GcAQEwTxSmK&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=mlf47i29Tyu&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Yes. I’m wondering if the diagnosis port is perhaps broken in the engine bay? Curious what the pin out is because I could trace it to the inside of my car and run an in car diagnostic port….like obd2

Found this deep in the archives. Pic taken from the 95 and 120 series Prado Gregories workshop manual I believe.

Theirs also this thread here which may be of interest to others reading this: Installing OBD2 bluetooth scanner on M-OBD Prados - Toyota Prado How To's, Technical Information & Reviews - https://www.pradopoint.com.au/forum/-120-series-discussion-only/general-120-series/27742-installing-obd2-bluetooth-scanner-on-m-obd-prados
