filled up with diesel, pulled into the parking lot to pay. Put in park and my prado just died. Cranked, idled then died after a few seconds. Put some injector cleaner in with no change.

Only recent work which was yesterday was I did was change the timing belt, accessories belt, oil change and fuel filter And glow plugs.

About 30 minutes prior I had to take the top mount Intercooler off to put a new nut on one of my glow plug so I’m wondering if I reconnected the vacuum lines or something incorrectly.

With this train of thought I swapped the two vaccume line positions next to the throttle body from the Intercooler thinking this may have been the issue when I reassembled. Put some zip ties on the vaccum hoses to prevent possible vaccum leaks and sprayed the connectors on the Intercooler with contact cleaner.

Gave the system a good 15 minute battery disconnect and seems to be idling fine now. I’ll keep updating this thread if anything happens. I’m just afraid this intermittent issue will come back assuming it was self induced from the maintenance I did earlier.

Honestly sounds like air in the fuel system with your filter swap. Hopefully your problem has passed.

Yeah so I just had it die again today, tried to prime the pump and I wouldn’t get any resistance after 10 or so pumps like usual. Checked for leaks, nothing found. Im not used to diesels but what is the best way to remove air from the system

Definitely. You have a bunch of air trapped in there. At least your problem is an easy fix.

Yep that was definitely it. Took off the intercooler and loosened all the injectors then cranked the engine. As soon as diesel started spraying out I turned off the engine and tightened all the injectors. Ran up 2x with little hesitation after reinstalling the intercooler

About 4 hours later I came back to try it again and the engine just wouldn’t turn over like before. Tried priming the fuel pump but made no difference the second time I cranked it. Do y’all think I gotta remove the fuel filter and top it up with diesel? Or just keep bleeding via the injectors at certain intervals to get the air flushed out completely? I’m thinking there may be an air bubble being that the fuel filter is the highest point of the fuel system and me priming the pump just forces air bubbles through the system? Just my theory, I’m an aircraft mechanic not a diesel expert lol.

Take off the filter, fill it with diesel, loosen one injector and crank till a steady fuel stream comes out. Tighten things up and let her rip.
