Hello, I saw a resent thread on this site that goes over my question of what oil to use. I see people say Rotella and Delo400 and the grade 15w-40, 10w-40, 10w30, 5w40. I'm not sure which one to go with grade wise. I'm located in Florida with average temps 70-75°F (21-24°C). Summer is usually a little hotter than 75F, and my surf is a daily driver.

Hello,

I've had my 94HiluxSurf: 1kz-te in Northern Marianas, and Houston TX. Both comprable to Florida in climate. After reviewing oil selection guide on owners manual went with 10w30. The guide sort of recommends staying away from 5w30; I forget if that is for really cold or hot. 10w30 covers entire temp spectrum. I run a conventional non-synthetic oil because it is cheap and I've never actually seen a synthetic run in a diesel and I work with many marine diesels. On those engines we test oil regularly for viscosity, moisture, and acidity. Hardly ever have an issue. Just abide by the 6000km change interval.

My own $0.02 with that is unless the thing leaks stick with a 30w, if it leaks use the thicker 40w.

Thank you for the feedback, where did you find your owner's manual?

I'm back at home, so here are some pictures of books. The Japanese one came in the glove box, the Haynes manual was from the ebay. Notice how there is no reference to 40w in the oem Japanese one, and the 10w30 is listed as good above -20degC.

Good luck
Dan
