1hzj 1996 ute tachometer

Just wondering if any one else has had a problem with the tachometer in their 75 series landcruiser.
My tacho has stopped working properly.It will only register when the rev range gets pretty high,and it only just moves to let me know it still has some life in it.
How do i test to make sure that the tachometer is working / not wroking.And to see if the problem is elsewhere.
Any help would be appreciated.

if your tachometer does register when the rev range is high that means its not dead what you are experiencing might be because of a shorted rectifier so please check your rectifier using an ohm meter.
